Because I wanted to spend some time in Germany, to learn the language, and of the cities I was offered, Dresden seemed like the most interesting (I'd already been there for a visit).

The grant I got didn't go very far. I got approximately €2, 800, which, for the standard of living and the expenses there, was very little.

What is the student lifestyle like in Dresden?

It's really good. There are a lot of students from all different cities in Germany. There are also a lot of international students.

It's far to go from León. I usually went by bus to the Madrid airport, from there I flew to Berlin and from there I took a bus or a car to Dresden.

Where would you recommend for a night out in Dresden?

Neustadt is the best party area. Regarding the bars, it depends. I usually used to go to rock bars, there are a lot of them. For those of you who like electronic or house music or pop music, there are also some big clubs. For example, Musik Park, which is just next to the train station.

And to eat in Dresden? What are some of your favourite places to go?

Hellmuts! A restaurant for students with student prices. You can eat schnitzel with potatoes, a very typical dish from there.

If you want to spend a bit more, Pulver Turm is very good. The waiters are dressed in regional costume, they play traditional instruments, they tell stories, etc.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Dresden was made a UNESCO World Heritage site (it's not anymore), and so it has a lot of cultural interest sites. There are different museums, churches, etc. you can visit.

The Elba area is also worth visiting, it's very lovely all year round.

Do you have any advice for students coming to Dresden in the future?

If you're an Erasmus student, make sure you get to know German students, there are some very interesting people there and it's the best way to learn the language.

Erasmus students from other countries generally speak only English.
