Dresden is the most beautiful City I will have ever lived in. Dresden offers you everything - culture! Lots of entertainment, an excellent University and several colleges.

What is the student lifestyle like in Dresden?

Brilliant! Dresden offers several museums and has a lot of history. We often relax near the Elbe on its river banks where you can chill, prepare some BBQ, listen to music and enjoy the beautiful view of this Baroque city on green grass. In summer there are the "Filmfestspiele" at the Elbe - during 2 months everyday is a different concert or cinema film shown - for very little money. Concerning partying: go to Neustadt.

Dresden's centrum is divided by the river Elbe :

  • the Old Town (Altstadt) possesses all the cultural and historical events - a tip: the Semper Opera offers tickets for students about 15€ for world famous pieces like swan lake ballet or other operas.
  • The New Town (Neustadt) in the other side of the Elbe is more the alternative part with uncountable restaurants, bars, clubs and so on.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dresden? Is there any advice you can give?

No not at all!

If you want to find a cheap but high qualitative accommodation as a student go to "Studentenwerk" otherwise there are many students sharing an accommodation, so-called "WG's" - Wohngemeinschaften.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food comes in various shades. Of course you will find typical German or even Saxon food like Schnitzel or potato soup but in the New Town mostly (and spread over the rest of the city) there are restaurants of almost all nations worldwide.
