What is it like to live in Cork? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I grew up in Cork and love it here, never want to leave. It's big enough to give the urban metro feel that most European cities have, but small enough to give you the warmth and character that bigger cities lack.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cork?

Student lifestyle is excellent in Cork, there's a huge student population in the city between UCC and CIT. There are nightclubs and bars to suit all, plenty of cinemas, Opera House, art galleries... whatever you're into really.

How much does it cost to live in Cork?

This is Cork's biggest flaw, Ireland is an expensive country and Cork does not differ in that regard. However, there is plenty of fast food outlets, a cheap bear that makes it possible for student life here.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cork? Is there any advice you can give?

Around the college's accommodation is not difficult to find provided you book before the semester starts. The city centre shouldn't be a problem to find accommodation either, although if you plan on attending CIT it's a reasonable distance from the city centre.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Cork is the same as most Irish good, wholesome and traditional, meat and veg. The standard is pretty good, plenty take pits for European or Chinese foods around.

What places would you recommend visiting in Cork?

Blarney Castle is quite near and is a historic site, Fota Wildlife Park is nearby too. If you like sport try to get to a Gaelic games match, either football or hurling, it's the biggest sport here, however there's also a football club and Munster play some rugby games here.

My favourite place to eat are:

  • Amicus on Paul Street, great food and lovely for a meal.
  • The Pearl River, Chinese restaurant.
  • Princes' Street do a lovely curry if your into that as well.

Is the nightlife good in Cork? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is pretty good. Student nights in Cork are Tuesday and Thursdays, with Thursday being the main night. The Bodega is the best nightclub in Cork in my experience.

What advice would you give future students headed to Cork?

Come to Cork, especially if you're from the continent, you'll love the experience!
