Experience in Cork, Ireland, by Jayne

What is it like to live in Cork? Would you recommend it? How is it?

Cork is a small and very cute city! The people are very friendly and the bars have a friendly atmosphere. It's a student city, and nothing is far away. There is a lot of nature to discover near Cork.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cork?

The student lifestyle is very fun, the students are all 'up for the craic' which is what they said when they want to go out, meet their friends and enjoy life!

How much does it cost to live in Cork?

It's no more expensive than Buenos Aires. For example, I lived very close to the university but I didn't pay more than €350, but it depends.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Cork? Do you have any advice?

The University of Cork has a society dedicated to Erasmus students and they help you find accommodation. It's not difficult if you start looking early enough.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I'm a big foody! And in my opinion, Cork is a city with very tasty food! Many of the restaurants make their food with local ingredients. I'm a vegetarian and I have lots of options there, and they're not too expensive! If you go to Cork, you have to go to Orsos, it's a very pretty restaurant! Cork has a lot of hidden restaurants, so you have to look for them through their tiny streets, where you'll find a lot of cafes, restaurants, bars, etc. They're all different and friendly places too. I like the supermarkets here because they have a big selection and they're very close to the university.

Voodoo, the Rock, Old Oak, many different bars, Reardens, The Holy Cow.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Cork in the future?

Enjoy the city! The University looks like Hogwarts from Harry Potter, and go to the International Society events!
