What is it like to live in Cork? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I love living in Cork. People are very friendly and welcoming. There are some beautiful tourist attractions. Shopping is good, restaurants are excellent, it is a bustling city.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cork?

It is good. While in University, there are a lot of Student Nights, with reduced rates for Students in the City Nightclubs. I love the social side of my student life.

How much does it cost to live in Cork?

Roughly €120.00 per week including utility bills.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cork? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, at this particular time, accommodation near the university is very limited so a lot of students tend to get accommodation in the suburb areas of the city. A lot of households in the suburbs are advertising for students for the academic year/semesters now. Living in the suburbs is good but involves extra costs for travelling on the public bus.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The restaurants are really good with a lot of variety, Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, Thai but many, many more. A lot of the Restaurants accept the Student ID Card so you can get a small reduction. My favourite are the Italian Restaurants with a good size Pizza costing €10.00.

What places would you recommend visiting in Cork?

I recommend visiting:

  • St. Finbarrs Cathedral
  • The Bells of Shandon
  • Blarney
  • Midleton Distillery
  • Kinsale

Is it good to eat out in Cork? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes it is good.

My favourite spot is Milanos, a very, very good Italian Restaurant.

I also like Scoozis which serves up a variety of different types of food.

Is the nightlife good in Cork? Where is good to go?

Great. My favourite places are:

  • The Laughing Cow
  • The Bowry
  • Reardons
  • The Secret Garden
  • Voodoo Rooms

What advice would you give future students heading to Cork?

Enjoy the experience.
