Where to get anything American in Milan, Italy.

I know I know, if you are in Italy why do you need to eat American food? But let me explain. Being an expat is not always that easy. Sometimes we want to eat the things we are used to eat and do the things we normally do at home. We need to find out which places are close to the places we normally hang out at, and this is not always easy. I tried myself to find some good Italian food abroad and most of the times I do not succeed. The following list is composed by places I personally go to or know about. I am not American so I will let Americans check them out and decide on their own if these places are something for them or not.

Arnold Coffee

I call it “Starbucks’ Cousin” because it is very similar to Starbucks. We do not have it in Italy yet, so this is the closest you can get if you are craving a Starbucks Frappuccino. They have a variety of pastries, sandwiches, arizona teas and coffee. I do not go there daily or weekly because it is quite pricey, at least for me, but I do like to go from time to time with some friends because they have comfortable chairs (if you are lucky enough to find places to sit). You can find Arnold shops in Stazione Centrale, in Via Festa del Perdono 1 (really close to the Università Degli Studi Di Milano) and in Via Orefici (Duomo M1).

California Bakery

I love their cheesecakes, smoothies and pretty much everything. This place is also quite pricey for me, once I spent eleven euros for a piece of new york cheesecake and a smoothie. The good thing is that I felt full when I left, sometimes I leave a place without being full and also spending too much, at least here when I leave I am satisfied. My friends told me that here brunch is also amazing, and I bet breakfast itself also is. Read more about it here.

Vanilla bakery is more or less just like the above California Bakery, there are just less around and in different areas of the city.

Holy Burger

I have been in one of them and I spotted another one, so I am not sure of how many there are around, but I did like having lunch here. I ate here with Americans and they liked it, so I am guessing the burgers are actually good. I always enjoy eating hamburgers (and not fast food, real burgers).

Roadhouse

I have been to a roadhouse in the USA and this is very close to that one. They serve burgers, ribs, tortillas, potatoes and things like that. I love coming here and on sundays they have All You Can Eat ribs for only ten euros. I did have that once and I did not have the courage to order more ribs because the first plate already filled me up, but I bet that out there there is someone willing to challenge themselves.

(This is me ready to eat my ribs! Well, not MY ribs... you know what I mean. )

Old Wild West

This is also like the above Roadhouse, but they have a different style and I believe they have a few more Mexican dishes. At Old Wild West you can also watch soccer games because they have big tvs. Also, you can easily find one in the city, opposite to the Roadhouse which is usually in the suburbs of Milan (the one I go to is in Trezzano Sul Naviglio). There are many locations like in Colonne di San Lorenzo, Corso Sempione and Viale Cassala.
