When you come to Estonia, go to the supermarket (like Rimi or Maxima) and try these foods. I would say I enjoyed all of them on this list, however, kisel is still the last on my list…

Traditional Estonian Food
- Kisel
- Black bread
- Dairy products (cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, dairy products which don’t have a translation into English, but you can find on the photos I made – eg. Kohuke, which are sweet cottage cheese bars, mostly consumed by children)
- Kalev chocolate(oldest chocolate brand producing high-quality chocolate products; my favorite is dark chocolate, while the best present for an artistic person is the one with the traditional Estonian ornaments reminding of the Baltic culture)
Recipe for Estonian Kissel Mustikakissell
I remember when I was a child my grandmother tried to make me like this warm drink from the berries. Honestly, I wasn’t able to drink this, thus this time in Estonia I was trying to be polite and avoid this traditional cuisine. However, I had no idea this Mustikakissell in Estonian style with the whipped cream on the top is so different from the Lithuanian ‘’kisielius’’! Actually, I found out this is one of the most extraordinary desserts I have ever had.
How to make it?
Ingredient

Blueberries
-
2 l of water
-
2-3 tablespoon of starch
-
You made add sugar if you want to make it sweeter
Directions:

Boil berries in the water and add some sugar.

Stir the starch in the cold water and then add it to the Kissel.

Stir well.

Bring to boil

You can serve it with the whipped cream, which makes it look even more delicious and elegant.
If you are a tourist and don’t have time to make it, you can buy this dessert in the shop or in the traditional place for dining.
