Strawberry trifle
The introduction
In this article I want to tell you about this strawberry trifle preparation and, well, how I prepared it from the very beginning to the end. It’s a pretty good thing to have during this time if you love eating some vanilla cream and if you love strawberries with it, and it has a little bit of biscuit , too, and that’s it. And my sister loves it very much and she wanted to eat it, so that’s why I prepared it the other day.
To be honest, it doesn’t’ really need much of things, however, the preparation process can be very time-consuming if you are preparing everything by yourself, I mean, if you prepare the cream filling and the biscuit yourself, then it will need much time for the trifle to be prepared, of course. However, you can just buy the biscuit and you may just buy some whipping cream or something like that to have a cream filling.
Well, I wanted to prepare everything by myself, so that I would have everything just the way that I wanted. So here it goes!
Preparation of biscuit
So, I decided, that it would be great to have a pound cake prepared and used it in my trifle. And as I have this convection oven and I use it a lot in preparing pound cakes, I would easily prepare this pound cake, too. And I decided to have a plain lemon pound cake in there.
Ingredients:
- Eggs, 1 medium
- Matsoni, 80 grams
- Baking soda, 1 teaspoon
- Drops of vinegar
- Sugar, 1 cup
- All-purpose flour, 1 cup
- Unsalted butter, 50 grams
- Oil, 2 tablespoons
- Lemon zest
- Vanilla
Preparation process
So, I combined the egg and the sugar and butter together and mixed them well until fully. Then I added the oil and baking soda with some drops of vinegar on it and Matsoni. And then I added the vanilla and flour and oil and lemon zest and mixed all those things well together, so that nothing would be separately and everything would be a whole mass. When I tasted, it tasted a little bit sweeter, than ni expected, however, it was not bad and I decided to have the dough poured into the baking pan and have it baked. I had that pound cake baking form taken out and greased it with some oil and while I preheated the convection oven, I poured the dough into the baking pan and put its lid on it and then I put it into the convection oven on a low rack on 175 degrees Celsius for 50 minutes.
After that time had passed, I checked the cake and it was perfectly baked and it was time to take it out. I kind of waited for it to get cooled down and then I turned it upside down and took it out.
Now it was time for the cream filling and that was which took me some time to prepare , if you want to know the truth.
Preparing the cream filling
There are not much ingredients, that you need for the cream filling preparation, however, it’s very time-consuming, as I’ve already mentioned above. Though, I like my cream filling and I usually don’t find it in any bakery in any cakes or whatever and that’s mainly why I use to prepare it myself.
Ingredients:
- White granulated sugar, 2 cups
- All-purpose flour, 2 cups
- Vanilla
- Egg, 1 medium
- Water or milk, 1.5-2 litres
- Unsalted butter, 150 grams
Preparation process
So the preparation process started with me boiling the water into my electric kettle, however, you can just as easily use milk instead of water. I prefer the water, if you want to know the truth, because the cream filling comes out lighter to eat.
Until the water boiled, I mixed together the dry ingredients, which are the flour and sugar and got ready for the water to boil. When the water boiled I just took some of it and poured it on that dry things mixture and mixed it well and after a couple of minutes I added an egg to that mixture and whisked it well, so that everything would just get mixed together very well and everything would just be great. So that it was pretty nice altogether and I poured that mixture into that boiling water into the saucepan and whisk it well, so that it would get like one mass or something like that. And when I whisked everything for a couple of minutes, I could just be like that and wait for it to get ready stirring occasionallyso that the mixture wouldn’t stick on the bottom of the saucepan. For that I had this wooden spatula, which would stir just perfectly and it was pretty efficient for that. Well, to tell you the truth, I didn’t count the time, however, I should have, because then I would know how much time I needed for the mixture to get ready. However, it was like 15 minutes, or so, when the mixture became thicker and it was kind of ready and cooked for good. So that I decided, that it was ready. It was more like a porridge and it tasted good, too, so that I turned the gas off and let it get cold. I was not going to prepare the cream filling immediately, so that I could let it be like that for a while until it got all cold and stuff. Besides, I didn’t’ have the unsalted butter on a room temperature, because I had forgotten to take it out of the fridge, so that I had to wait for my butter to get warmer and it needed some time for that and that’s why I couldn’t be in a hurry to prepare the cream filling for my strawberry trifle.
Well, after some time, when the butter got on the room temperature, I took some of it and put it in a standing mixer bowl and started the mixer and had it like that for a couple of minutes, until this butter got all white and fluffy. Then I added one tablespoon of that porridge and waited until the mixer mixed those two things well together. Then I added another tablespoon of the porridge and I continued like that until all the porridge was mixed with the butter. Though the porridge was plenty and it was more than enough for that one bowl and then I had to take some of it out and put it in another bowl and so on and so forth.
Finally, I had all those things mixed well together and then I wanted to have some essences added to the cream filling, so that it would be really delicious and light. Well, to tell you the truth, my aunt used to add some vodka and lemon drops to the cream filling when she used to prepare some cakes for us when we were children and we were watching her prepare the cakes, of course, and I remember, that I just hated when she used to add that vodka and lemon drops in the cream filling, however, there was not just me there and I was not the one preparing the cakes, so that I wouldn’t say anything and I would just continue watching. However, it was not just that it tasted different, but it didn’t taste like vodka, you know, so that the cream filling was just fine and I liked it in the cakes in the end. So, remembering this, I have this vodka, where I have put an orange peel and it has this orange taste and smell, too, besides the vodka taste and smell, so that now I use to add it to my cakes and cream fillings and those cream fillings taste great after that. I mean, those cream fillings become lighter to eat and tasty and it doesn’t have this heavy taste or whatever. So, that’s why I decided to have some of that vodka with orange added to my cream filling and I also added some lemon juice, which I just squeezed from fresh lemon and then I had this vanilla added, too, though it needed plenty of vodka and that juice, because the cream filling was plenty itself. And the funny thing was, that it was so much, that the mixer couldn’t mix it well together and I had to put it separately on by one into the mixing bowl and mix them together with a spoon or something after that on my own. It was good, that I had that much amount of cream filling, because then I could use it into my strawberry trifle without any sparing, while all the other situations I used to have less cream filling than I needed.
So, everything was just ready for the cake to be assembled and now I had to cut the strawberries and the biscuit and prepare the trifle.
Well, first of all, I had those strawberries washed and everything and then I cut them into three pieces generally, however, some needed to be cut once or even more. When I had them cut, I cut the biscuit into thin pieces and then I cut them into long pieces, too , so that it would be easy for them to get softer with that cream filling all over them and everything.
First of all, I put some cream filling on the bottom of the bowl and then I put some pieces of biscuit on it and then I had plenty of strawberries put on them, because I wanted the trifle to have this great strawberry taste and that’s why I used plenty of strawberries in my trifle. After that, I had another layer of cream filling and some biscuit pieces and then some strawberriesand so on and so forth and that’s how I assembled the strawberry trifle.
You know, it’s really great eating that trifle when you want something kind of sweet , but not that sweet and something like that of an yoghurt or a light cake without too much bbiscuit in it and things like that. Especially, if it has so many strawberries and it’s like strawberries with cream filling and that makes you love life even more. I remember my sister eating it and being so happy because of that and saying something about how great life is with strawberry trifles and stuff like that. She just really loves that strawberry trifle above all, though there can be some other trifles made, she still prefers strawberry one. It’s really interesting, how that trifle would taste with some cherries in it, I have never prepared that kind of trifle, I mean, one with cherries and now I’m wondering, would it be better if I used some cherries in it. And, besides, it’s cherry time now, it’s summer and there are cherries all over the places and I should definitely try and prepare some cherry trifle and taste it. Peach trifle is very delicious, too, because peach has this juicy consistency and that is what gives the trifle a great taste and it’s very light to eat , when you have plenty of peach pieces along with the cream filling into your trifle.
Anyways, I used a lot of cream filling in my trifle and I used plenty of strawberries, too, so that the trifle would have that amazing taste of strawberries. After finishing the assembling of the cake, I decorated its top with strawberries and that was it, the trifle was finished and it only needed to be put into the refrigerator to have it cold after some time. And it would be better and better after some hours or so, because then everything would get blended and the biscuits would get softer and it would be very good to eat it.
So, after some hours, we decided to taste the strawberry trifle and it was just perfectly good.
