The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!

In this article I want to tell you about the salmon soup and for those, who haven’t heard about it, it’s a great soup if you love fish, so that you take a whole full of vitamins soup, which is just a perfect solution for everything.

Well, I didn’t really know about it until just recently, when me and my friends were in this Le Monde café, where they had this salmon soup, which sounded pretty interesting and I ordered it. It was just 7 laris, I guess, so that it was an okay price and I ordered it mainly just to taste it, because I really llike salmon, though I hadn’t tasted its soup yet, so that I was really excited until they brought my order.

To be honest, the soup did really taste pretty good and that’s why I started looking up some recipes of salmon soup, so that I could prepare it myself.

So, let me tell you about the salmon soup recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Salmon, 500 grams
  • Potatoes, 4-5 medium
  • Carrot, 1 medium
  • Onions, 2 medium
  • Rice, 100 grams
  • Dried basilica, ½ teaspoon
  • Orange peel, 2  teaspoons (optional)
  • Lemon juice, ½ tablespoon
  • Parsley
  • Celery
  • Salt to taste

Preparation process

So, the preparation process starts with the cooking of the salmon steaks, of course. Well, you should definitely buy the salmon steaks, which are sold frozen in the supermarkets, and it’s an easy way of preparing it, rather buying the whole fish, which then needs to be chopped and it’s a pretty hard work, if you ask me.

They usually boil the salmon in Georgia and I don’t know how they prepare it in certain places. So, usually, they put the salmon pieces into the saucepan and pour about 2-2.5 litres waterand add a bay leaf and some pepper balls and they cook the salmon pieces like that. The water should be boiling about a couple of minutes, but it shouldn’t be too much, because then the salmon pieces will get very soft and overcooked and there won’t be any kind of pieces then.

In the meantime, you can take another saucepan and add some olive oil to it.

You should peel the carrots and then shred them into thin small pieces and add them to the saucepan with the olive oil in it.

You should also peel and chop the onions and add them to the carrots in the saucepan and you should cook them on a low heat occasionally stirring.  Well, maybe you will want to just have the onions cooked in the oil and when they get a little bit golden in colour, then you may want to add the shredded carrots. I usually do that, however, some people just add them to the saucepan both at the same time. You can cook the onions and carrots for a couple of minutesand be careful, not to burn the onions, because they are easily burnt things and if you burn them, then you will just have to prepare that mixture again, because otherwise the dish will get that burnt taste, which nobody loves.

So, after all the things you have done, you can have that fish stock added to the saucepan, where the onions and carrots are and cook them together like that. However, I usually don’t do that, because I don’t really like that fishy taste of fish stock, which gives a very fishy taste to the soup. Although, some people like that taste and prepare the dish that way, however, I don’t use that fish stock to prepare the salmon soup and I don’t recommend using it in your salmon soup, either. Instead, I just boil some water into my electric kettle, which is a great thing for boiling water very fast and then I just pour that water onto the carrots and onions into that saucepan and let them get cooked like that.

In the meantime, you can peel  the potatoes and cut them into small cubes and add them to the mixture, where the carrots and onions are being cooked.

After the water boils again into the saucepan, you can have that washed rice and dried basilica added to the saucepan.

Meanwhile, while the ingredients in the saucepan are being cooked, you can have the salmon steaks prepared. They will already be cold, so that it’s not a problem to take their skin off and the bony parts, too, so that you will have just some small pieces of the salmon steaks left for your dish.

You should have the fish pieces added to the soup just before it is finished, because the salmon pieces are already cooked and they don’t need any more cooking.

Well, after you have prepared the soup and every ingredient is cooked, especially rice, because it needs some time to get cooked, you can add the salmon pieces and the shredded orange peel and the lemon juice. And you should also add the salt to taste. You should also wash and chop the parsley and celery and add them to the soup, too.

And, if you want your soup to be a little bit spicy, you can always add some pepper to the dish.  And you should know, that the orange aroma is just great with the dish and it gives the soup a very special taste.

So that, to tell you the truth, I didn’t really expect that salmon soup to be so tasty, however, I’m really glad, that I ordered it and got it so good. The portion was not small and it was just enough for one person and, besides, they had those three normal sized loaves of bread put beside the soup, so that I could eat them with the salmon soup. And, well, the black bread really goes on well with the salmon soup. You should definitely try preparing this salmon soup and, trust me, you won’t regret preparing it if you love fish!
