Preparing Snickers cake
Hey people, hope you’re doing great! Today I want to share with you a recipe and tell you about me preparing this cake, that seems to be kind of easy to make, but I guess, it’s not. It’s really delicious, though. Imagine, you eat one slice of it and you think you don’t want to eat another one because it’s so sweet, but then it’s like a cocaine and you want it more and more and you can’t stop just wanting it. It's called "Snickers".
Let me tell you about how it all started.
Well, it’s called Snickers, but my aunt kind of modified it and made it something else, so it was all new cake and she started preparing it and when I tasted it was really good and all the other people liked it, too, and then it became kind of a habit to have this cake on parties and stuff like that and everyone would eat it and this cake was the thing which wasn’t left, if you want to know the truth. Everyone just ate it and loved it and they would ask for more, but I guess, they didn’t really have the courage, I mean, how can you ask your host to give you more of something if you have a decency?! I can’t do that, even if I know that there’s plenty of something and even if they tell me that I can have it more. Well, maybe in that case, I can take the offer. It depends.
So, the ingredients are not much, and at first, you will think that if the ingredients are not much, then the preparation process might be pretty easy and stuff like that. I thought that, too. However, I was wrong and I realized that when I started preparing it.
To tell you the truth, I remember preparing this cake once when I was little, I mean, it was some years ago. I wasn’t very little, but still, it’s little for cooking or something like that. I was visiting my grandmother and my aunt works at a hospital and she was working that night and we wanted to bake this Snickers cake. We had all the ingredients and we thought that we could prepare it. well, I don’t really remember everything, but we did everything as it was said in the recipe and at the same time, we called my aunt and asked her things about the cake and the preparation process and stuff like that and so we had the dough and the cream and everything, you know, and we just had to cut the dough into three pieces and roll each of them and have them baked in the oven and that’s what we did. So, the first dough was placed in the oven and started to be baked. It needed some time, so we were in another room watching TV and talking and stuff and sometimes I went into the kitchen to check on our cake. And once when I did that, I noticed that the dough was on fireand I started to laugh somehow and I came out to tell my uncle that the cake was burning and when I did that, they just all rushed into the kitchen to see whether or not I was lying, because I was laughing when I told them that. And when they saw the cake they were shocked, how this could happen! We took the dough out of the oven and looked at it with amazement. Half of it was all burned and black and it was pretty funny, though, but it was not funny at all that we wouldn’t have the proper cake! Anyways, I don’t really remember, whether or not we baked another pieces of dough, but I guess, we baked them and made a cake with what we had. Well, that was the story. And I remember it every time I bake a cake, I guess, because it’s something one can not really forget. You should’ve seen that process, it was so hilarious!
Buying prepared stuff
Anyways, went some years and the cake became still popular and as you see, there has been a demand on that cake, so my aunt usually has this cake on parties and on just usual occasions, also, and stuff like that and my sister really likes that cake and this one day she just said that she wanted to eat that cake. And, you know, there’s this great thing that you can buy many things that are already prepared and you can buy the prepared in all or you can buy them prepared half, I mean, if you buy few things that are already prepared, you can add them together or whatever and prepare something as a whole, so that is the prepared half, if you ask me. So, there’s this place in Tbilisi on Station Square, it’s called Pasaji or however it is spelled in English and there are lots of things sold and one of them are those cake stuff, like cake biscuits and forms and tart doughs and birthday cake biscuits and many other stuff and they are pretty delicious and I wonder who makes them, but I haven’t asked about it. anyways, I like buying some things there, for example, I buy there mini tart forms and they are already baked and I just have to make the cream or whatever filling I want and just put it in those forms and that’s it, there’s no need of spending time baking those stuff. Besides, I’m not good at baking and I always have a bad dough, I guess, or perhaps I just don’t know on how much degrees I should bake or I don’t know, I can’t figure it out. So it’s just really easy for me to buy some half prepared stuff and use them as I want. I usually have them with cream puddings or something like that. They turn out really delicious. In addition, I just love that puddings and I usually prepare them and it’s all parties and cakes and stuff, you know!
Well, I went there on Station Square and they had these prepared parts of Snickers, I mean, there were three baked doughs in one pack, which cost 5.50 Laris and it’s a pretty good price, if you ask me. You should’ve seen the package and the doughs baked. They were all crispy and nice and thick and when you taste them, they taste really good, so why would someone bother to bake something, that may even not turn out as they anticipated, when they can just go there and get the ones that are done already and all tasting good and stuff like that. The life has become simpler and you should not miss that chance to live a simpler life, rather than bother about things and other stuff that people won’t appreciate at the end, of course. I took those Snickers’ doughs and went home. On my way home, I bought two cans of cooked condensed milk _ you know , the one that is really brown, not the white one. I kind of hate that brown condensed milk, but my sister loves it and almost everyone in my family loves it, so we often have it and use it with cakes and they can just eat them without anything or on a toast or something like that. When I got home, I had this 50 grams of butter or a little more on a room temperature, I opened those two cans of cooked condensed milk and mixed those two ingredients together in a standing mixer while my sister took out the Snickers doughs and then we spread the filling on those things and then on top and then we sprinkled some crispy things on the top of the cake. I also made a chocolate glaze and sprinkled it on the top of the cake, too, and it became really beautiful. We also sprinkled some chocolate chips on the cake and that was it. the cake was ready in just some minutes without even bothering or something like that. That’s pretty good, huh? So, why bother, when you can just go and buy something? Besides, when I said that the price was really good, I meant that if you buy the ingredients and try to prepare this cake on your own, the dough will cost about 5 Laris, I guess, and then consider all your effort and time that you put in preparing that dough! And each dough piece needs more than half an hour to be baked and maybe it won’t come out as you wished it would, then what can you do? Nothing. So, it’s a great idea to buy prepared stuff! Everyone liked that prepared cake, even my grandmother, who doesn’t really love very sweet stuff and she doesn’t easily eat new things, if you want to know the truth.
The decision of preparing Snickers by myself
To be honest, I wanted to eat that cake again, but not really, because I decided to lose some weight and I’m on a diet. However, the urge was kind of real and I decided to have that cake and bake it by myself. Actually, it was kind of a dilemma for me, because sometimes I wanted to prepare it by myself and sometimes I wanted to buy prepared stuff and just spread the cream over it and that would be it. However, it was so hot outside, that I was pretty lazy for that and probably I would prepare the cake.
Well, I did some research about the cake. I even talked to my aunt about the recipe and how to prepare the cake and stuff like that. She even sent me the whole recipe. I was surprised that it didn’t need any Matsoni or sour-cream or milk or anything like that. It just needed eggs, sugar, margarine and flour. And that was it. And I thought that it would be pretty easy to bake that cake and that was one point to preparing the cake at home! Then I googled the cake and saw some recipes and videos and all the other stuff that I could have seen on Internet and sometimes I thought it was easy, sometimes _ not, and finally, I decided to give it a try and prepare it at home. Besides, it was really hot outside and I just didn’t want to go all the way to Station Square and back.
Ingredients:
- 7 eggs
- 2 margarines
- 3 cups granulated white sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Drops of vinegar
- 3 or more cups all-purpose flour
- 2 brown condensed milk
- 1 tbs honey
- Vanilla
Preparation process
So the preparation process started! The very first thing I had to do was to separate egg yolks from egg whites. That was easily done by that egg yolk separator that I ordered from Ebay. I put egg yolks in a bowl with 1 and a half cup of sugar and let them mix well in a standing mixer. Meanwhile I took one margarine and melted it on a gas and then I waited for it to get cooler so that I could add it to the eggs and sugar mixture. Until that I added 1 tbs honey and some vanilla to it. when the margarine got cool, I added it to the mixture and mixed it and then I added 1 tsp of baking soda with some drops of vinegar and mixed this all up. Then it was time for the flour. And I’ve mentioned in my blogs that I really love cocoa, so I added some cocoa powder to the mixture and mixed it well. It was said that it needed 3 cups of flour or something like that and I added three cups, but it was not enough, I guess and so that I started adding flour to the mixture and I didn’t really know how much flour would be enough, as I guessed it should’ve been kind of thick dough, but not that thick and the consistency was really unknown to me as I hadn’t seen one made in front of me or else I would remember how it looked and I would try to do my dough just like that. Well, I usually can’t get the right doughor I don’t know what’s wrong. I mean, there’s only this cake called “Datunia” that I make right. All the other ones are just a total bust. I mean, they don’t come out as planned and they are not all fluffy and stuff, as they should be and I don’t really know why. I guess, I put much flour in them or there’s something wrong with the baking soda or the degree Celsius that I bake them, I don’t know.
Well, after some time I got the dough out and placed it in a plastic wrap, because I saw someone doing it on Internet when I searched this cake’s recipe, and I put it in the fridge while I was making egg whites. I did some pretty good egg whites, well, I didn’t do anything, the standing mixer was mixing it. and then I added 1 and a half cup of sugar to it and let the mixer do the work, while I would roll out the dough. I took the dough from the fridge, it was all the same as it was before putting it in the fridge. I cut it into three parts and the dough was not as thick as it should have been, to my mind. So I tried to put some flour on it and roll it out and so I just did some things to make it right and finally I rolled out that dough and then I put some egg whites on it and put it in the oven. I turned the oven on 120 degrees Celsius and let the cake bake. It was about half an hour or more when I took it out. The egg whites in the middle were still soft, but I couldn’t wait any longer, so I took it out and put there another piece of dough with egg whites on it. I baked it on a little more temperature and then there was the third one. The egg whites were kind of a bust until that and so that there were not good egg whites on the third part of the dough, so it baked more quickly than the others. Well, those things turned out okay, but I expected them to be thicker and something like those ones that I bought some days ago when we made that cake. But these were nice, too and I hoped that the taste would be good. Though my sister ate a small part of it, which unfortunately broke from one piece, but she didn’t say anything how it tasted or whatever and I hadn’t asked that either, I don’t know why. Perhaps I was thinking about how I would place those baked parts and stuff like that. I had this plan, that I would prepare some chocolate glazewhile my sister was spreading the cream on the baked parts. I made the cream, of course.
I just took 50 grams or a little bit more margarine, which was on a room temperature, put it into a bowl and turned my mixer on and it mixed the margarine and then little by little I added some brown condensed milk to the margarine. Well, everything was kind of ready and it just needed to be spread on the dough, but my sister started whining about spreading the cream and I just had to do it by myself, too. I spread it on all the three parts and the last one was the one I baked first, it really was beautiful and didn’t resemble the others. So, I just had to sprinkle that chocolate glaze that I prepared and then I used some pieces of the cake and I just ground those things and sprinkled on the cake, too. The cake looked really nice and beautiful, if you ask me, and all there was left was to taste the cake. However, tasting the cake immediately is not a good idea, because everything needs to be set aside for a little bit, so that everything gets kind of mixed or whatever it is called and so I put the cake in a safe place and waited for it to be ready and stuff. Well, actually, it would be great the day after, if you want to know the truth. So, I just waited for the next day to come and then I would taste the cake.
Well, to tell you the truth, it’s that day and I’m waiting for a new day, I mean, tomorrow, so that I can taste my cake and see how it tastes.
