Hey people, let’s make some pasta!

Everyone loves pasta, especially youngsters and there are many recipes about making pasta with different toppings and sauces and stuff like that. Well, I guess, everyone knows that pasta is Italian and when mentioning pasta or spaghetti or macaroni I usually have associations of Italy.

If you google it or just go to Wikipedia, you will read this about pasta: “Typically, pasta is a noodle made from an unleavened dough of a durum wheat flour mixed with water or eggs and formed into sheets or various shapes, then cooked by boiling or baking.”

I really wondered about the history of pasta and I want to share some information about it that I read in the Internet. Well, turns out, the word “pasta” first attested in English in the 19-th century, while there are writings mentioning such food even from the 1-st century. And maybe you know, that pasta is Italian, but I’ll tell you more and you will see, that it comes from Sicily and the first reference dates back to 1154! And, of course, the word “pasta” means something like dough. So, you are right! It means dough, pastry cake” in Latin.

Dried pasta that we use now and is a very popular one started to be commonly used in the 15-th century and this let people have pasta stored for  a longer period of time as it’s really easy to store when it’s dry and it gets bitter after some time.

I’m sure you all have seen those different pastas in different sizes and shapes and stuff like that. There are long pastas, short pastas, minute pastas, egg pastas, fresh pastas, those wide pastas, etc.

Usually pastas are packed in 500 grams packagesand that’s what I use to make pastas. And usually I use the whole package, but if you don’t want to prepare so much pasta, you can just divide it and store the rest of it as it won’t get bitter for a long time as I’ve mentioned that already.

So, all you need to prepare some pasta is water and pasta and some salt to taste. That’s it. It can’t get any simpler than that. And perhaps that’s why people love preparing it so much, because you need only something like 15 minutes for the pasta to be ready after the water in a saucepan boils.

Generally, when you buy pasta, you can see the preparation method on its back side. So, they have simplified everything for you and you just have to put them in a boiling water and that’s it. Great, right?

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams pasta
  • 3 litres water
  • Salt to taste

Okay, so, this particular recipe is not really a recipe, as it only includes cooking just pasta. Typically you use 1 litre water on each 100 grams of pasta, or at least that’s what most of the packages have written on them in the preparation methods. I just use a little more water than that.

So, you pour the water in a saucepan and wait until it boils. When it boils I usually put some salt in it and then you can put the pasta in it, stir a little and wait until it boils again stirring occasionally. Some people add salt at the end of cooking. Then you wait 15 or a couple of minutes more after boiling and stirring occasionally so that the pastas won’t stick on each other or something. Then you can taste one of them and decide whether it is ready or not. Or you can just take the pasta out without tasting it.

The water may be fully absorbed by the pasta, or there may be some of it left and so you just pour that water out. And then you pour some cold water on the pasta and pour it out, too.  And that’s it, pasta is ready! You can add some oil so that it won’t stick on each other and just eat it like that.

However, if you want to add some sauce to your pasta or something like that, you can get as imaginative as ever! Everything goes well on pasta, trust me. And whatever you choose to be your sauce, it will be really delicious combining with pasta. It’s like a bread, you know. And you can even eat bread with pasta!

Pasta with meat

I really like pasta with meat and this meat is like pre-prepared and it's sold in grocery stores canned. But you can prepare it yourself, too, I guess, but it will be kind of time-consuming. So, I buy this canned cooked meat,I cook it again on a pan and add it some chopped onions and some spices and after a couple of minutes I add it to the pasta. It is very delicious and many people like it.

Pasta with cheese

I like pasta with cheese, too. You just have to add some shredded cheese to pasta when it's ready and the cheese will melt and it will be like heaven to taste it.

And so, as I've mentioned already, pasta is great with almost everything and you can even eat it with just ketchup or whatever you have or want.

So, enjoy!
