Education in Ghana.

Education in Ghana is definitely one of the best in Africa.

Education in Ghana is provided and managed by the Ghana Education service through the  ministry of Education .

It has three main levels;

Basic education.

Basic Education in Ghana is made up of the

Pre-school,primary and and the junior high school(formerly ,junior secondar school)

This later level is a preparatory stage to the secondary level, the senior high school. The ideal age for a child to begin schooling in Ghana is 6years.

Students learn a general course  to be prepared for a specialization in the second cycle.

NB:

(repetition is possible for low performance)

(Learners are punished for unallowed behaviours)

(In all levels of education, Christians,Muslims, traditionalists... Live together in harmony and tolerance)

(We have missionary schools and non-missionary schools)

Subjects learned are mathematics,English, technical skills(now called the basic design and technology-BDT),Intergrated science,Ghanaian languages,French,Information tecghnology and religious and moral education.

At the end of the basic education, one has to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Exams, by the west African Examination Council.

Only good passes could get one enroled in the next level of education.

In the senior high school, one has the option to make a bit more specialization in studies based on

Ability, grades, interests and facilities available in a given senior high school(SHS).

Some specializations in the secondary level are:

General science

Home science

General arts

Visual arts

Technical courses

Bussiness

Agricultural science...

Similarly, one could opt to attend a vocational school to learn a particular trade.Such institutions are called the National vocational/technical Institute(NVTI)

Be it an SHS or an NVTI ,one has to undergo a 3-year secondary education.

The next level is the tertiary .

We have the;

University

Polytechnic

College of education

Nursing college

Agric college.

One chooses to attend any of the above based on his interests and abilities in order to get prepared for the world of work.

It is interesting to know that, when one chooses to attend the college of education or the nursing college, his job is assured at the end of his course. The government automatically posts such people into the eduaction and health sectors respectively.

That is to say,for education and health sector studies, one is most likely (80% sure now though it used to be 99% previously) to be absorbed by the government sector.

It is also interesting to know that teachers in Ghana are one of the workers with poor working conditions in the country.

Teachers in the basic level of education work *hardest* than all others but have the least regards from the *governments* of Ghana.

A lot more will be added .

I will upload some photos soon.
