Blancmange

The introduction

Hello everyone, I hope, that you are all doing just fine!

In this article I want to tell you about another recipe, which my aunt prepared some time ago and I really liked it and then I asked her to teach me how to prepare it and that’s how it all began, I mean, she told me what to do and how exactly to prepare it and then I tried preparing it, and, well, though the first time was not very successful, however, it became easier little by little and then I prepared kind of a better one.  It’s a Blancmange and it’s a French thing, a dessert, in particular. Well, to be honest, when I saw these blancmanges I liked them, because they were pretty beautiful, however, I never wanted to taste them. However, when my aunt prepared it, I tasted it and it was really delicious.

Well, blancmange is a sweet dessert, which is prepared with milk or cream and its main ingredient is gelatin. You can also use cornstarch. It’s sugar thickened and it’s often flavoured with almonds, however, my aunt didn’t use the flavor. It’s soft and gelatinous, and you can make it shaped in whatever shape you want. And, of course, you serve it cold, it’s better if you have it in your refrigerator and take it out just before eating it. Well, at least, that’s what I like and I usually have the blancmange or things like that in my refrigerator and eat them pretty cold and it’s just like ice-cream, I guess.

So, let me tell you about one of the recipes of this blancmange, which was pretty delicious.

Blancmange

Ingredients:

  • Gelatin, 1 teaspoon
  • Boiled cold water, 1 cup
  • Sour-cream, 400 grams
  • Egg yolk, 2
  • Egg whites, 1
  • White granulated sugar, 1 cup
  • Vanilla
  • Shredded lemon skin, 1 piece
  • Cognac, 2 teaspoon
  • Walnuts, 1 cup (optional)
  • Raisins (optional)
  • Chocolate (optional)

Preparation process

Well, the preparation process is not very hard or very easy. It’s like medium level.

  1. First of all, you should pour the water onto the gelatin and let it be like that for 40-45 minutes, so that the gelatin will get kind of dissolved in the water and it will become a thick porridge or something like that.
  2. Then, you should put the gelatin mixture on a low heat and occasionally stirring, you should let it get boiled, so that the gelatin will melt in the process.
  3. In the meantime, you should mix the egg yolks and sugar together and mix them well together.
  4. After that, you should add the sour-cream to the egg and sugar mixture.
  5. You should also add some vanilla and shredded lemon peel and cognac to the sour cream and egg and sugar mixture and mix them well all together.
  6. After that, you can add the chocolate or walnuts chopped or some raisins to the mixture.
  7. Then, you can pour the gelatin into the mixture and mix them together.
  8. After all of this, you can pour the mixture into the glasses or whatever you want and put them into the refrigerator.
  9. You can also sprinkle some things on top of the mixture or some chopped walnuts or whatever you want. It’s very popular to have some peppermint leaves on top of the blancmange.

Blancmange

Well, this is one type of blancmange, that you can prepare, and, as I know, it’s not very difficult to prepare it.And it’s not that time consuming, not to consider that about one hour of setting the gelatin with the water aside. And, as I have told you above, blancmange is mainly prepared with milk, however, this one was with just water, and, well, I think, that it’s better that way, because it has less calories, and you don’t need to buy some milk for that, and you can just have that water.
