Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok is busy city, which is the capital city and more appropriate to have fun and shopping. This city is famous for nightlife, street foods, Thai spa, shopping, lady boy shows, night clubs, colourful classic Bangkok tattoos, traditional temples etc.

My vacation was limited for one week in Thailand which was so amazing. Since I started my journey from Sri Lanka to Thailand the cost of the package was very cheap due to low ticket fare. The hotel where we took the accommodation was a four-star hotel, which was very clean and tidy even though the chargers were very reasonable including for the breakfast. For the breakfast, they offered variety of foods including traditional Thai meals (rice with some other curries), western breakfast (bread, scrambled eggs, sausages, butter, cheese etc. ), fruits, café and sweets. The service of the hotel was very good but you cannot trust room service with your valuables. So, my advice is to keep your valuables always with you. We had to face an unfortunate incident due to stealing money of my friend at the hotel. It is a bit sad to say, that the response of the hotel managers was not quite satisfactory with this incident, since they did not pay attention to find the stolen money.

With that warning, I must say that you should be careful with your money and other valuables while you are walking on the street and travelling by bus since there are a lot of thieves. Inside the city you can find a lot of public transports (Bus) in time to time. But if you prefer you can hire a taxi car or “tuk tuk” which vary famous among travellers and cheaper comparative to taxi cars. Even though, the number of travellers is limited to three, usually more than three persons travel in a tuk tuk. Normally, you can bargain for the price of the tuk tuk and I think that is good approach to find transport for a reasonable price.

Most of the shopping malls, morning markets and night markets were located at a walking distance from the hotel where I stayed. It was very easy to do shopping and enjoy the nightlife. So, I just use tuk tuk few times to go to bit far places from my hotel. So, my advice is to book a hotel where you can have walking distance to popular city areas, where you can go shopping, clubbing, dinning etc. in Bangkok.

Even though there are a lot of famous shopping malls in the city (MBK, Central World, Siam Paragon, Platinum Fashion Mall/ Pratunam, Pantip Plaza/ Pratunam), you can buy the same quality cloths for more cheap prices at morning markets (Pratunam Morning Market, Bobae Market) and night markets. Normally, morning markets open from 5.00 a. m. to 7.00 a. m. So, if you go early as possible, you can find lot more design cloths under a cheap price. But I must say that you can bargain the prices, even if you can bargain, be careful with old lady vendors, since they get angry so quickly when people bargain too much. Besides that, you can have a good shopping time in Chinatown which very famous among wholesale buyers. I could buy beautiful shoes, handbags and slippers for me and my relatives from these wholesale shops under a cheap price. The quality was quite good since I used them few years. But you must pay attention for the quality of the product and the price of the product when you buy the things. The next important thing is “do not buy electric goods” such as phones, I pad etc. since there are a lot of forged and fake items. Even though there are lot more electronic items with a good appearance, do not trust them since the vendors do not demonstrate the true features, errors and limitation of the products.

Beside going shopping you can enjoy a lot of street foods and other typical Thai foods there. In each street, you can see small food carts or restaurants which offer fried rice, noodles, steamed chicken, grilled meat (chicken, pork) and different types of snakes (fried sausages, fried shrimps, fried meat balls etc. ). Personally, I have tasted fried sausages, fried shrimps, fried meat with a kind of sauce which was so delicious. I recommend you Chinatown and Old town for having quite good street foods. I highly recommend you enjoy the fresh fruits in different varieties (Pineapple, Mango, pink pomelo, rambutan) since there are so tasty and cheap. Most of the fruits are tropical fruits which you cannot taste in European countries.

Besides the foods, Thai spa centres are largely spread in Bangkok which offers variety of services including foot massage. If you like to have this kind of massage then this is the best place. But be thoughtful when choose place to have a Thai massage since some places are filled with lady boys.

Apart from that you can go to visit Buddhist temples, but I cannot provide much more details about it since my knowledge is limited with this activity. I did not go to visit the temple I just saw the temples from the outside. With that imaginations, I must say that these temples are more different from the other temples, which I have seen in other south Asian countries due to the architectural design and the interior design of the temples. From the outside, they are very elegant.

Along with that, Bangkok is very famous for flowers. If you are floriculture lover then you should go to Bangkok since there are famous floriculture farms. In time to time they organize flower exhibitions and if you want you can buy flower plants in retail or wholesale from these exhibitions. They provide all the instructions to grow the flower plants in a technical way. Especially, you can find beautiful Orchid flower plants.

Then you can find a lot of night clubs, floating markets, aquarium, theme parks, calypso cabaret show, safari riding, etc. for entertaining activities. Normally, one week is not enough to do all those things. So, according to your preference you can decide what you like to do. I guarantee that there are plenty of things to do.
