SOFITEL BANGKOK SUKHUMVIT | COFFEE IN STYLE

Published by flag- Oat Sitalasai — 9 years ago

If you’re wandering around the Sukhumvit area and need a place to take a seat and cool down from the Bangkok heat, I would recommend checking out Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit. I realize that the title says coffee in style, but by no means are you obligated to order a coffee or a drink there. I’ve worked for hotels of the same calibre and as a part of reception team, I personally treat everyone that walks through the door as a guest, regardless of whether you stay at the hotel or not.

In saying that, I would recommend this place for one main reason: the modern classic decor of the lobby. The reception and concierge and all sorts are on your right hand side as you enter the lobby. On your left, you can catch your breathe in what is like a lobby bar. I had the chance to have coffee and cookies there, which was an extra. The lobby seating looks reflects that of a library. The seats are comfy and there was wifi too!

What’s interesting and awesome at the same time about Sofitel properties is that they keep their French roots, and pinch in a bit of the local treasures of the destination. For example, we clearly felt that Sofitel comes from a French brand as illustrated by several replicas of the famous Eiffel Tower sitting in the lobby space. The staffs are also obliged to greet guests with a classic French greeting “bonjour”, in which I find quite neat.

I did mention that they also take in aspects of the local tradition. You can see that the lady from the reception team is ready to greet and assist guests, in a Thai-inspired uniform. I find that really cool as well.

Going back now to the food and beverage side - which is always super important - we had ordered simple coffees with milk and were offered like accompaniments on the side. The coffee actually came from the hotel’s mini cafe / patisserie shop just on the right of the entrance before the reception. We had a look at what they offered and it was really surprising as well. Appropriately named “Le Macaron,” it had products that you could bring home, cakes, pastries, macrons (of course), croissants, danishes, the whole lot basically. We were also informed of their awesome high tea, in which we couldn’t fit into your tight schedule. If you’re interested, you can pop in, grab a croissant and a coffee.

Since Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit is a five-star property and at the top of the Accor Hotel Group, you could expect for the prices to be quite high. With the higher price, you can be assured that the quality does come with in. I would love to try either their high tea or buffet experience one day, as I’ve heard from another connection in the industry that it does live up to the Sofitel standards. Should you want to swap flip flops and street foods for shirt/dress and an elegant meal or high tea, check out their website below for more information on prices, offers, location, their dining outlets.
