Living in Zaragoza
What do you think about living in Zaragoza? Would you recommend it? What's it like?
For me, Zaragoza is a city that's perfect for university students. There are lots of things to do, a big university student population, libraries universities, shopping centers, green areas, etc.
What's the student lifestyle like in Zaragoza?
People are very friendly and make friends easily. It's not as much of a party city as other places perhaps, but still, there are a large number of places to go out for a drink and a night out with friends.
The Universities of Zaragoza are well-regarded nationally.
How much does it cost to live in Zaragoza?
I stayed in a residence and paid 380 euros per month, full board. There are a lot of student residences, I stayed in the Ramon Pignatelli residence and really enjoyed the 5 months I lived there. It had a study room, wifi, dining room, etc. and the people I met there are wonderful. The Vivac residence also has a good reputation. This residence is in a very central location and is close to the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR)
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is usually very good, as it is all over Spain. Aragon is a region with a lot of agriculture so the fruit and vegetables are incredibly tasty. The meat is very good too, especially grilled dishes and stews. My favorite foods in Zaragoza are grilled ternasco chops and "migas con chorizo".
What places would you recommend visiting in Zaragoza?
There are lots of interesting monuments and if your stay isn't very long, you probably won't have time to visit it all. In my opinion the most important things to see, in order of importance, are the following: the plaza and Basilica of pilar, Aljaferia Palace, the monasterio de piedra, the Roman Theatre, Plaza de la Seo, Plaza España and Paseo Independencia and the Plaza de los sitios.
What about ating out in Zaragoza? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Zaragoza?
Usually I went out to eat at a restaurant called Casa Javier where they have menus of the day and you can eat for 15 euros or even less. The food is homemade, very tasty and the service is very welcoming.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Zaragoza?
There's a lot of atmosphere in the city centre. The busiest bars in the area are Casa del loco and mantis bar. There are other places to go out and party too, but this is the one I know personally.
During the Fiestas Del Pilar, all the young people go to the car park in the north of the city, where they set up tents with music and concerts of well-known bands.
What advice would you give future students heading to Zaragoza?
It's definitely worth getting a tram card. The tram is a great help if you want to move around the busiest areas of the city, but it has only one route, though it's very long. Another recommended means of travel is bike, since the city has a lot of cycle lanes.
