Experience in Zaragoza, Spain by Lara
Why did you choose to go to Zaragoza, Spain?
I didn't really choose Zaragoza, it was my third choice, but at the beginning I really wanted to go to Spain! I choose Barcelona and Sevilla but both were already taken! Then I went there, but I didn't regret anything, this city is perfect!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I don't have any scholarship.
What is the student lifestyle like in Zaragoza?
In one word : SIMPLE. Here, there is all! Associations (ESN, AEGEE) help you to find activities and places to go at the beginning if you are a bit lost and then you are able to do things on your own! For me, it's a lifestyle like in a big city but with less people around you! There is no crowd!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Zaragoza to other students?
Definitely yes! I recommend Zaragoza to simple people who likes great places and good people!
What is the food like?
Tapas! If you don't want to try it, please don't go to Zaragoza! There are also good italian restaurants, Indian and Japanese ones too. (Also fast food! )
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Zaragoza?
I met a German/Russian guy in my Spanish class. We decided quickly to live together with an other german girl who has already found a flat! We moved together in a 4-bedroom really central flat! Then we found an italian guy really motivated to live with us!
How much does it cost to live in Zaragoza?
I paid 190€ each month for a beautiful shared-flat! I live in the city center, I think that the prices are very below than the prices in France!
It's not really expensive to eat too. Find Mercadona and your life is going to be very nice!
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I have chosen to take Spanish courses because my level wasn't very good! It was really great, I met a part of my Erasmus friends there and after 3 months we are still in contact!
The teacher was amazing and teach us how to speak in the reality and not in a school way.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Zaragoza from your city?
Zaragoza- Paris (Beauvais) 37€ round trip with Ryanair!
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Zaragoza?
Casco historico, best place to party! If you are an Erasmus, there are some places where Erasmus people go, for example, on Thursdays! Kenbo, la mina... and many more.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Zaragoza?
I tried an Italian one which was really good! There was a 15€-menu!
Bar la Bendita close to plaza de España, really nice decorated and good tapas, big cakes.
For me the best one is Café botanico next to Pilar, very chic and well decorated, huge delicious cakes and good value!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Plaza del Pilar, of course! The most beautiful basilic I've ever seen!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Zaragoza in the future?
Just enjoy your stay! Do exactly what you really want to do! Be yourself!
Don't panic if at the beginning you don't understand everything, it's going to be better and better!
