Student Life in Warsaw, Poland by Munisa
Why did you choose to go to Warsaw, Poland?
After being an exchange student in Germany, I opened Europe new for myself and decided to obtain my Masters there. And Poland was the best choice. The country itself is a bridge to other EU countries, the cost of living is much cheaper.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I don't get any scholarship. I finance my studies with a part - time job.
What is the student lifestyle like in Warsaw?
You have to study day by day in class but when you finish you can discover the city and have a party all night.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Warsaw to other students?
Strongly recommend. The University offers effective and interesting courses, multinational environment and multilingual education.
What is the food like?
I'm not a fan of Polish cuisine :) I mostly prefer to cook myself at home or going out with my friends to Italian or Moroccan restaurant.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Warsaw?
Almost "NO". We found our apt through the internet and didn't have to pay for it. But I know lots of people who had to pay commission to agencies to help them to find an apt.
How much does it cost to live in Warsaw?
I spend about 500 EUR monthly, including rent payment, bills, food, shopping, entertainment, etc.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language is very difficult. I still have difficulties with language, even though I know Russian :) You have to speak in Polish everywhere. At the university the courses are available, but I don't have enough time to take classes.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Warsaw from your city?
Plane! With Turkish Airlines or Aeroflot. There isn't any direct flight to my home country.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Warsaw?
Old Town is the best place to have fun, drinks and foods. I don't like going to clubs or bars.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Warsaw?
SPHINX of course.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Many places: Cultural Palace, National Museum, Jewish Museum, The Warsaw Rising Museum and so on... I suggest in particular Old Town, Lazienki Park and Wilanow.
