Erasmus Experience in Warsaw, Poland by Shulang
Why did you choose to go to Warsaw, Poland?
To be honest, I came to Poland by accident. The exchange program quota was allocated randomly and mine was Poland. However, I fell in love with this city after two months studies. To some extent it is quite similar as China, even though I can't tell, but still makes me feel warm in heart. I really enjoy here.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Four months, and the scholarship cover all my tuition fees. No support on my living cost, however, everything in Poland is so cheap compared with those in UK.
What is the student lifestyle like in Warsaw?
Study is full of fun and challenge, but you will never get tired and feel bored. Erasmusu will organize trips during semester which are cost friendly and can make many new friends. I heard nightlife here is awesome even though I never tried by myself. It's not because the party or bar are not good, it's just because in Chinese culture, some people including me don't like to go out at night.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Warsaw to other students?
Yes, for those who want to study in Warsaw, I'll recommend.
What is the food like?
The food is delicious with high cost performance. I always cannot eat up my meal to be honest. Ribs and pirogis are so nice!
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Warsaw?
I'm satisfied with my accommodation. At first I met a fraud and pay 500 pounds as deposit, however, he didn't refund the money to me after I said I do not want your flat anymore. The contract didn't say anything about the refund, so it's not illegal. So I lost those amount of money, but finally I found this awesome place to live.
How much does it cost to live in Warsaw?
Not too much, around 1500PLN-2000PLN maximum including accommodation fee.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Not really. The courses are useful, but you need to use in daily lifeinstead of just studying in class.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Warsaw from your city?
By plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Warsaw?
Sorry I really cannot answer this question, because I don't like to go out at night.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Warsaw?
Zapiecek, Wok Sushi.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The old town, and centrum.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Warsaw in the future?
If you are Chinese student, you can bring some Chinese snacks as there is no Chinese shops in Warsaw. You will miss the food in your hometown.
