Erasmus Experience in Warsaw, Poland by Maria
Why did you choose to go to Warsaw, Poland?
Because of the high ratings of the University, but also because of the Polish currency that was more convenient.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship lasted 5 months, and I received 460 euros/ month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Warsaw?
Constant entertainment, diversity, endless possibilities.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Warsaw to other students?
I would definitely recommend Warsaw, as well as Kozminski University to other students.
What is the food like?
The traditional "pierogi" was not really to my taste, but you can also find international food for any of your moods and taste buds.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Warsaw?
No, it did not. I was helped by the University's adviser to find the best option for me.
How much does it cost to live in Warsaw?
Well, I managed to cover my expenses with the scholarship, so I would say that it is not as expensive as most other capitals.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I had some language courses and managed to learn some words and basic expressions, but it is a challenging language to learn.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Warsaw from your city?
First bus to Budapest, then plane from there to Warsaw. That was my choice, since there were no direct flights from Romania to Poland.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Warsaw?
The clubs are nice, very entertaining, but if you are looking for a more chilling out experience, the pubs in the Old Town are really nice also.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Warsaw?
Since I mostly did my own cooking, I wouldn't know quite so many. But you can find some really good ones in the Old Town as well as the small squares in the Old Town.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Uprising Museum, Copernicus Museum, those were quite fascinating. There is also a Mdm Curie museum that you can visit if interested.
Also, I think you can still do the free walking tour of Warsaw, with a guide, which is very interesting, informative and enjoyable if the weather permits it.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Warsaw in the future?
Be sure to always have a map of the city with you, and use the internet site for the bus and tram transportation to get you the easiest to your destinations. Also, taxis can have very different tariffs from a company to another, so be sure to find an appropriate one and stick to it. Also, enjoy your stay! I hope you will come to love the city and the entire experience as much as I did.
