What is it like to live in Vilnius? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is a small city compared to other European capital cities. It has beautiful Old Town and city center. Because it's small, that means everything is near - railway station, bus station, airport. City is quiet, maybe city center is noisier, especially on weekends and in summer.

What is the student lifestyle like in Vilnius?

It's comfortable, you can reach your faculty or city center easily with public transportation or taxi, it depends what do you want to do and where are you living (closer or further). There are many places you can go: museums, cinemas, theaters, fitness clubs, bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants, so there is what to do in Vilnius for students. Also there are many libraries for students. And of course there are many food stores, supermarkets almost in every corner, so you can cook for yourself.

How much does it cost to live in Vilnius?

It depends where do you live: in dormitory or you're renting room in a flat (apartment). In dorms price can be from 300 to 450 Litas (utility taxes included). In flat (apartment) it depends how many people are living there and which season is by the time. And also in which district you want to live: the more closer district is to city center, the more expensive it will be. In summer it's cheaper, cause you don't need to pay for heating. So all in all in summer can be 300-500 Litas + utilities (water, electricity), in winter the same + you'll pay for heating extra. These are the cost approximately for a person in one room.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Vilnius? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not difficult, you just need to search in advertisements on the Internet. There are plenty.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is good and saturated. Lithuanian dishes usually consist of meat, potatoes, wheat and vegetables. But there are many foreign cuisines all around the city. I recommend cepelinai, žemaičių blynai, šaltibarščiai, balandėliai.

What places would you recommend visiting in Vilnius?

Gediminas castle, mountain of Three Crosses, various museums (National museum of Lithuania, KGB museum,.. ) and all Old Town.

Is it good to eat out in Vilnius? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it's good. I recommend Forto dvaras, Alaus namai, Šnekutis. You have to go there at least once.

Is the nightlife good in Vilnius? Where is good to go?

Yes, there is where to go on night time. Bars, clubs, pubs are open usually every day, but some of them closes on midnight on regular day. But on weekends everything works until 5 or 6 a. m. , so it's up to you, whether you want to dance all night, or drink with your friends in loud music, or just quietly talk with your friends with a glass of wine or beer. Every places are in the city center or in the Old Town.

What advice would you give future students heading to Vilnius?

You should definitely visit Vilnius, not just because it's only one of the two Capital cities from Baltic states, but because it's a city with long and beautiful history, architecture, Old Town. There are places to visit and explore on daytime, and places to party and have a good time on night time.
