Erasmus Experience in Vilnius, Lithuania, by Victor
Why did you choose to go to Vilabius, Lithuania?
To discover a new culture and make the most of my Erasmus, to be able to go out and to enjoy my free time without spending too much money.
How long did you stay there? How much subsidy or grant do you get?
I stayed for 5 months and I got about 650 euros from the Erasmus grant.
How did you find the student atmosphere in Vilnius?
The atmosphere is great, there is an Erasmus nightclub where everyone goes every Tuesday, it's free to get in and the drinks are cheap. Then at the University the Lithuanians are quite nice but not around much and are really involved with their studies.
Would you recommend the town and the University of Vilnius to other students?
Yes, without a doubt.
What is the food like in Lithuania?
Not that great, the food is essentially based on chicken, potatoes and cabbage, it's very different to what we are used to in France.
Did you have any trouble finding a place to stay in Vilnius?
I started off by sleeping in a hotel for the first week and then I found a great flat right in the town centre after two days of searching on some Facebook groups.
What is the living cost in Vilnius
Really cheap:
- 50 cents for a bottle of milk.
- 6 euros for a bottle of alcohol.
- 5 euros for a 15 minute taxi ride.
How did you find learning the language? Did you have any language courses organised by the university?
I didn't learn Lithuanian but I know some basic words.
What is the cheapest way to get to Vilnius from your town?
By plane.
Which places would you recommend to go for a night out in Vilnius?
Salento, Opium Club, Opaloka, Exit.
And what about eating in Vilnius? Where are your favourite spots?

And what cultural visits would you recommend?
