Erasmus Experience in Vilnius, Lithuania by Dejan
Why did you choose to go to Vilnius, Lithuania?
I went to really good faculty there- ISM, and that is whay i went to vilnius
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It is erasmus, the prices are lover in Vilnius than in Slovenia (where I live), but still you spend a lot of money, because you spend a lot on partying (but you will spend less in Vilnius, cuz the prices are really low)...You need at least 500EUR per month-depends where you stay, dorms are really chip, but if you want to rent a great place in center, the prices can go really high :)
What is the student lifestyle like in Vilnius?
As said, i went to private faculty and we were small group, so there was a lot of contact with locals - they are all really nice and like to talk to foreign students.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Vilnius to other students?
The city is amazing and people there, too. I didnt study at University of Vilnius, I went to ISM, but i talked to others, that went there and they all liked it.
What is the food like?
well if you like a lots of fruits and vegetables, prices can be quite high. But you can get cupons for different restaurants (Can-can, Charly pizza, Chilly pizza) on internet or in their places, and you can eat really cheap-i am talking 3 euros for pizza or even less.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Vilnius?
At our faculty we all got mentors (local students, who helped us) and they helped us to get flat or to get a place in dorm...if you have chance, go to dorm it is like 90 euros per month, so you will have lots of money for other activities.
How much does it cost to live in Vilnius?
as i said, you should have at least from 400 to 500 euros for month
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
well the lithuanian language is quite hard, i stayed there for 10 months and didn't learn much...but lots of people speak english and they really try to help you...most of older people speak Russian, so if you know it it can help you BUT they dont really like russians, so maybe is not good idea to use it :/
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Vilnius from your city?
well i am from slovenia, and we dont have good conections with vilnius...but if you are from spain, i think you should check Wizzair, Rianair or others for low flight tickets
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Vilnius?
well ther is Salento, cocainn, pušku-pušku or tarantino...
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Vilnius?
well you should check local restaurants, you have to try PINK SOUP it is really good :) check can-can, chilly and places like that
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
well you get really cheap tickets for theatre (drama,..) as student, you should check Trakei, Nida in lithuania, and also travel to Estonia, Latvia and Poland
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Vilnius in the future?
I really had the time of my life, i am telling you, you wont be sorry if you go there :)
