Experience in Vienna, Austria by Tevfikcan
What is it like to live in Vienna? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
To me, living/studying in Vienna is like enjoying life at the intersection of many cultures as well as having the opportunity to travel to many European countries because of city's central location. The former Habsburg Monarchy cities such as Budapest and Prague are reachable in less than five hours by train or bus at reasonable prices.
In the wintertime, ski lovers shouldn't miss Semmering, a relatively tiny ski resort, just an hour away from Vienna, and has very nice slopes. Compared to other European cities, Vienna stands out with its flawless public transportation and perfect quality of life.
I would definitely recommend all, especially for those who are interested in arts, classical music.
What places would you recommend visiting in Vienna?
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Grinzing, Kahlenberg (for the city view), VIC (Vienna International Center)
Is the nightlife good in Vienna? Where is good to go?
Although the local young people don't find the Viennese nightlife colorful, there are still thousands of nice places to go as an international student. Erasmus clubs (drinks are almost for free) are the best for meeting other international students.
What advice would you give future students headed to Vienna?
Vienna is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the World and international students should spend more time discovering others' cultures rather than being in monocultural friend groups. So, try to find a room in an international dormitory, this will definitely maximize your chances of meeting as many international people as possible!
