Experience in Vienna, Austria by Tamara
What is it like to live in Vienna? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would definitely recommend Vienna. It's a nice city with a lot of history and architecture. It is also a comparatively small city which means that you get everywhere in about 15-20min (depending on the public transport).
What is the student lifestyle like in Vienna?
It's also nice if you have friends. As the university is pretty big, it is difficult to meet people to keep in touch with.
How much does it cost to live in Vienna?
Apartments are neither cheap nor expensive (10€/1m2).
Prices for food and drinks are also moderate. There are some restaurants with discounts for students.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Vienna? Is there any advice you can give?
Yes, I would say it's difficult. My advice is to choose a flat near public transport (really good public transport and close connections). Flats inside the "Gürtel" are near the city centre but more expensive.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Try the Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn!
What places would you recommend visiting in Vienna?
- Famous sights (Schönbrunn, Belvedere, Opera etc. ).
- Donaulände (hotspot in summer).
- MQ (art galleries and predrinking spot for students).
What advice would you give future students heading to Vienna?
Try it out, you won't regret it!
