Experience in Vienna, Austria by Jarrod
What is it like to live in Vienna? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Vienna has been amongst my favourite cities since I began travelling, hence my decision to live here. Wonderful Museums!!! Grand parks, Music, modern and classical, great cafe culture, a green and bike friendly city surrounded by hills and countryside just over them.
How much does it cost to live in Vienna?
The cost of living in Vienna can add up! A shared apartments in the city start around £350. The transport system is great in Vienna and outer districts (8-16) and quite affordable and have good access to the city. Food can be expensive, but finding your local fruit and vegetable market will save you money. Bikes are also cheap and the paths are great to save on transport costs.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Vienna? Is there any advice you can give?
There are no shortage of room offers. Check out university accomoation, but wg-gesucht.de is perhaps the most popular and helpful.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Austrian food I have found surprisingly good as a vegetarian. There are as many options as any other country. Can't go past dumplings!
What places would you recommend visiting in Vienna?
The opera! Buy standby seats (€4 instead of €40). Cafe Wiedinger, or a classics Viennese coffee house. They have history and style! Flex bar. Stradt park. The Manner factory if you enjoy chocolate. The Naschmarkt. Hire a city bike and just ride.
Is the nightlife good in Vienna? Where is good to go?
There are live music bars close to Volkstheatre metro station. Also some bars under the Gurtel line (B72, Chelsea) or if you want a wild clubbing experience: Sass! Enjoy
