Why did you choose to go to Vienna, Austria?

The city is amazing in almost every aspect! Also, my friends recommended me to study here.

The transportation in the city is perfect, you can get anywhere with public transport; moreover, on the weekends there are night busses replacing the normal lines.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I'm not a scholarship recipient, so I worked a lot before I started studying and I brought my own savings.

What is the student lifestyle like in Vienna?

Here in Vienna, you can party every day, but you better study when the exam dates are coming up...

Beer and wine are fairly cheap in the supermarkets, so after you make some friends at uni, have house parties with them!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Vienna to other students?

Yes.

What is the food like?

As in any other Western country: hamburgers, pizza, lots of hot dog types, but schnitzel (meat fried) is a must!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Vienna?

Accommodation is not so easy to find, especially if you are not a native Austrian or German, or a female.

How much does it cost to live in Vienna?

Living in a shared flat with 2 other people and a room of around 15 m2 can cost around €400 (in good locations). You can always find cheaper options if you go on the outskirts of the city (districts 16, 17, 18... are on the outskirts of Vienna). The inside of the city is more expensive in terms of accommodation, but it's still manageable.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

German language is not easy to learn unless you really put some effort into it, but it is not really hard to get around the city speaking only English. My university does offer language courses.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Vienna?

If you prefer fancy places and don't mind paying a €12 entrance fee, you should go to Babenberger Passage, or Volksgarten Club Disco. In the last one they have a dress code, so you should look good in order to enter (it's easier for girls).

VIEiPEE is a good hip-hop club, while Pratersauna and Flex are great if you enjoy techno music.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Vienna?

There are a lot of famous and good restaurants, such as Figlmüller Bäckerstraße and Ribs of Vienna. Ulrich has good options for breakfast.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Schönbrunn Palace is a must, but if you walk around the first district of Vienna you will have seen it all, since it's practically the centre of the city.

In summer you should go to Donaukanal and have a beer, and to Donauinsel for a swim.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Vienna in the future?

You should try and look for accommodation in a good area, and interact with local students to make friends and find good places to go out with them.
