Why did you choose to go to Vienna, Austria?

I decided to go here to study political science. I’m from the Netherlands and I wanted to leave. I already had friends in Vienna so I took a look at the university and I thought it might be something for me to study and live in Vienna for the next few years.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My study is 3 years, maybe longer. It depends on if I want to do a master here too.
I work, I get 100 euros a month from my parents and 90 euros a month from the dutch government.

What is the student lifestyle like in Vienna?

It’s good, but a bit hidden. You have to know the good and nice spots. If you make friends that are from Vienna, it’s easy. If not, it’s nice to try out a lot, explore. Partying is on the weekends. Studying during the week. But we always have fun, no matter what we do.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Vienna to other students?

Yes, I would. The study programms are really good, the main building is amazing, also the building of the WU. There are a lot of international students but also from Austria.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Vienna?

Yes, it wasn’t easy but it was doable. I would recommend to apply for student dorms. The costs are low and you get to know a lot of people.

How much does it cost to live in Vienna?

For me it is 253 euros a month but it can also be around 400 euros. It depends on which area you live in, with how many people, how big the room is, etc. I love in a student dorm (studentenheim), so for me it’s not so expensive. Student dorms are overall the cheapest.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

For me it is because I’m from the Netherlands and I learned German in school. It kind of is, I think. They have a lot of language courses, all are for different things, abilities, things you want to learn. It’s very deverse.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Vienna from your city?

With airplane. We do it also by car. But the airplane is the cheapest and fastest.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Vienna?

I haven’t been to many clubs yet, but I really like Platzhirsch. The music is good and the drinks aren’t that expensive. Also, around Schwedenplatz there are a lot of good and nice bars.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Vienna?

Ra’mien go is very good and cafe Francais. Also, I really like burgring.1.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

So many. Just, whenever you walk around you already see amazing things. Visit Schloß Belvedere and Schönbrunn. That’s a must.
