Erasmus Experience in Vienna, Austria by 희경
* The questions are as if I've already been to Austria, but I haven't....I'll have another opportunity to post new comments after the end of my exchange student program.
Why did you choose to go to Vienna, Austria?
First, sorry for sending this response so late. I hardly check my mailbox of google.. I chose to go to Vienna because the city had been selected as the best city to live in, so I got curiosity why Vienna ranked at the first, and what attractions there would be. Also, I love that Vienna is the hometown of many great artists. I really hope to see the operas.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
Actually, I'm going to go to Vienna without any scholarship but only with my parents' financial support, so I'm a little bit worried about how much I can spend my money. I should try to save my money.
What is the student lifestyle like in Vienna?
Well, I haven't been there before, so I think I need to get to know about that.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Vienna to other students?
I believe that after I finish my exchange student program, I would have more confidence to recommend Vienna and the university. It is full of beauty and romance.
What is the food like?
I've heard that Vienna has lots of adorable cafe and tasty desserts, and I like that so much. I also would like to try something new about foods in Vienna.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Vienna?
I searchd many dormitories, some of them are expensive, and some of them are not that much. Finally I found a good dorm to stay during my accommodation, and the cost was not that expensive than I expected. (maybe that's because the room type is twin, for two people.)
How much does it cost to live in Vienna?
Now I can't be sure about that, but I expect that I can spend from 800 to 1,000 eruo on average (including the accommodation).
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I only take English courses except for one course that teach German, a really basic one (A1 level). I'm worried a bit 'cause I'm not that fluent in English (nedless to say German..), but I think this is a good opportunity to improve my language ability.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Vienna from your city?
Does the city mean the place where I'm supposed to stay in Austria? Well, I...am gonna live in Vienna, so maybe I need to think of different ideas about how to get other cities like Salzburg or Innsbruck. :)
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Vienna?
Could you recommend somewhere for me..? :) I'll search that on the internet, but I believe the exact information could be from you guys.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Vienna?
Same as the prior question, sorry. If you ask me another time, I'll recommend some popular restaurants!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
There are so many wonderful sites that I'd like to visit, inlcuding Schonbrunn Palace, Stephan Cathedral, Kunsthaus, Zentralfriedhof, and many of parks there.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Vienna in the future?
I hope to have many chances for many students to get to know about other people through parties or games, kind of those things. And I really appreciate that you give me this interview. Many thanks for Erasumusu!
