Discovering Little Treasures - Church of Sant'Anastasia
A few weeks ago, we traveled to Verona. As we had only been there for one day, we walked as much as possible trying to see the most important places. As we walked everywhere, at the end of the day we were exhausted and returned to the hostel. During the day, we saw a church and, without even noticing what place it was, we decided to enter. At that moment, the chill and darkness of the night became light, art and music. It was the Sant'Anastasia church, a pretty simple place from the outside, but absolutely amazing inside.
We arrived at the end of a mass, the organs were still being played and it was possible to contemplate the beauty of every single wall of the church. Each of them is made up of endless frescos that do not let even a small space be overlooked.
The church has a Gothic style and is situated in the oldest part of the city of Verona. The construction started in 1280 and was completed in 1400.
For new visitors to the city, this is a place that should not be missed. In our case, having entered the church was like being in another world, a real eye-opener after an exhausting (excellent, but exhausting) day.
The beauty of the church is undeniable, I really wanted just to sit on the benches and calmly enjoy all the paintings. Somehow, in this place, they are extremely deep and full of meanings. In a few moments, the fatigue and the cold outside were totally forgotten and replaced by an almost heavenly environment, it was an incredible and totally unexpected experience.
Excited for the new discovery, I tried to take some photos. However, in the same unforeseen way that the church of Sant'Anastasia appeared in our day, it also disappeared! The ceremony was over, the lights dimmed little by little and there was nothing to do but leave. It was good while it lasted!
Famous sinks of holy water. Their bases were carved in a way that looked like a humpbacked men who supports the structure.
Lights going out, end of experience.
