Erasmus Experience in Valencia, Spain by Amrita
Why did you choose to go to Valencia, Spain?
I have been to Valencia before during one of my Europe trips as a tourist. I was here for a day and two. The warmth of city and the people invited me back to stay longer and feel homely. In addition to this the IBMCP lab of UPV were technically sound and serves good quality research which made me to choose valencia on both personal as well as professional grounds.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My Scholarship is for 10 months.
I am receiving sufficient money to survive as well as save!
What is the student lifestyle like in Valencia?
I am living in valencia with my infant kid. Thats why I am not enjoying much of the student life. I am living a life of researcher who enjoys the unofficial time with her kids. But from my colleagues I understood that students life is happening here, you can enjoy water sports, trekking, clubbing, parties, cycling etc.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Valencia to other students?
Absolutely yes!
Valencia is the place which every one will like..
It has the comform and warmth of small town and speed and energy of big cities. Its up to the individual how he wants to lead his life. You will find all the flavours of life you are looking for!
What is the food like?
I didn't got the chance to taste the spanish food yet.
I am looking forward for a Paella PArty....

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Valencia?
As i was coming here with my family I booked a good apartment via an agency. because of that it cost a bit initially.
later sharing the apartment with other Indian friends has made the cost lower.
How much does it cost to live in Valencia?
It depends on Individuals life style..
but if you like to lead a decent life I am sure your fellowship(~1000eu) is more than enough for your expenses.
Infact one can save a lot too!
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
One can pick up some words very easily... like Hola, Gracias, de nada etc..
for a fluent language learning, university offers free spanish learning certified classes.. which are very helpful!
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Valencia from your city?
tram /Metro and EMT buses
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I generally prefer old city center area!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Valencia in the future?
Enjoy your trip to valencia...
People are good and helping...
and city is very welcoming!
