Diana in Spain: My Valencia Experience
What is it like to live in Valencia? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I personally love it here, mainly because of the weather and how quickly you get to know the place. Of course, I recommend it to students above all as in the student areas they are loads of young people and you’ll always find somewhere to go.
What is the student lifestyle like in Valencia?
Really good! There really are a lot of students that come to Valencia each year, whether Erasmus students or from other parts of Spain.
How much does it cost to live in Valencia?
It depends, for just a room in a shared apartment you could pay anything between 150€ and 250€ depending on the location too. But for your own little place with everything you'll ever need, you’d be paying up to about 800€ a month.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Valencia? Is there any advice you can give?
No. When I knew I was going to study abroad in Valencia in June, I looked on the internet for a room and booked to have a look at some. Going to see the rooms is an important part of the decision making process.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is the best! There's a bit of everything, and it’s all healthy. Obviously my favourite is paella, even though it depends on who makes it.
What places would you recommend visiting in Valencia?
All of them! From the city centre, El Carmen, Ruzafa; to La Cuidad de las Artes y Ciencias and the beach, etc.
Is it good to eat out in Valencia? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
I still haven’t seen all there is to see here in Valencia but one place I liked in particular was “Pan de Azúcar” at the Xúquer beach. "La Más Bonita" (also on the beach) was really cool as well.
Is the nightlife good in Valencia? Where is good to go?
If you’re going to live in the student area there'll be a chance to go out at least once a week: SuperClb, TBclub, LePremier and Mya are the main clubs you'll be going to. If you prefer going out to pubs or bars then Cedro is a good place to go. Plaza Xúquer, the Aragón pubs, the Ruzafa area and El Carmen are also perfect for this sort of thing.
What advice would you give future students heading to Valencia?
Valencia has its own little charm and if you end up coming here you won’t regret it. You’ll meet loads of new people, Spanish and foreign, all wanting to have a great time.
