What is it like to live in Thessaloniki? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is a nice place to live. It has all the advantages of a big city, but at the same time is peacefull and not at all noisy. I would definetely reccomend it. Especially for students, because the city has a lot to offer (culture, exhibits, nitelife, concerts etc.)

What is the student lifestyle like in Thessaloniki?

The university is very good and offers many courses. Students are generally open to meet new people and it is easy to make friends. The city offers a great variety of bars, tavernas, clubs etc., where students go out.

How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?

I would say that the cost is affordable. The rents are 250 euro for a studio and the bills don t cost a lot, but it depents on how much energy, water etc. you spend.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?

I don't think it is difficult. There are many offers. I would say that students better look for a place not at the center of the city, because it is noisy. We have good transportation and their home will be nice and quiet, but the center will be 20-30 minutes away.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are many options. Most of them are tasteful and cheap. My favourite dishes are chinese, pizza and sandwich.

What places would you recommend visiting in Thessaloniki?

The historical center, the upper town (Άνω πόλη, κάστρα), the parks near the sea and museums (for example museum of modern art) are only some of the places somebody could visit.

Is it good to eat out in Thessaloniki? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes the food is tasteful and affordable for a student. My favourite place is a taverna north of Rotonda, named Μανιταρι(=Mushroom).

Is the nightlife good in Thessaloniki? Where is good to go?

The city center has many places. Thera are many clubs at Valaoritou and near the harbour. I prefer tavernas and other bars, where you can drink wine and discuss with your friends. There are many of them north of Rotonda and at a place, which is called Bit Bazar.

What advice would you give future students heading to Thessaloniki?

The city has anything that a student wants. Nightlife, nice people, art, nice and cheap food, many monuments to see and many museums to visit, places to lie with your friends(like parks) and talk, bars actually many bars, concerts, nice coffee bars.
