Experience in Thessaloniki, Greece by Eleftheria
What is it like to live in Thessaloniki? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I wasn't always living in Thessaloniki but every time I was visiting it my heart was skipping a bit. When I was 12, my family and I decided to go live there as my sister and I would have better opportunities in life. Nice schools, nice weather, many things to do in your free time. A nice enviroment with lots of parks next to the sea.
What is the student lifestyle like in Thessaloniki?
There are so many things to do as a student. I guarantee that you will love the style of entertainment and the parties!!! In the mornings you can drink your coffee in little coffee shops in the yard of the university or even better have your breakfast near the sea. At nights, oh god at nights, you can party like there is no tomorrow. All universities are organizing parties at least once per month but except this, you can visit city center and find so many amazing things to do (more on this later).
How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?
You can find a great variety of rooms/studios/apartments in Thessaloniki. Houses are not very expensive. They usually are furnished but utilities aren't always covered, and you have to pay extra for them... For example, it's easy to find a studio with 270, in city center, and live with no roomates!
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?
It's not very hard to find accommodation. You can search either in websites or by your one. One thing to keep in mind is that registration is not possible, you don't have to register your address or go to the city hall.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food, entertainment and weather are the top 3 things in Thessaloniki. But for now, let's focus on food! You can find cheap fast food at Aristotelous, which is the main square in the city center, but also in Nauarinou square. Nauarinou is a place that every student will visit many times. There, you can find cheap food, coffee shops and of course many parks to enjoy your day. If you want some gastronomy in your daily food, I would recommend restaurants located across the sea. It is a little more expensive, but you will be amazed of the food's quality.
