What is it like to live in Thessaloniki? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Well, Thessaloniki has a lot to offer to a visitor. From a range of cafes and clubs to nature and sea. There is a beautiful seaside, the White Tower which is the symbol of Thessaloniki. There are a lot of international students studying. Thessaloniki is the 2nd biggest city of Greece. I mean that the life here never sleep.
What is the student lifestyle like in Thessaloniki?
Students go to parties. They can do many activities. There is free food for students in Universities. They go dancing in clubs. They just walk on the seaside. There is a student camping in Summer and festivals students can join.
How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?
The monthly cost in Thessaloniki is max. 600 euro depending on person. But if you rent a shared apartment with all bills included the cost is much more low max. 400 euro.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?
Finding accommodation is not difficult. First of all, there are some sites but they are all in Greek. You can find someone in Greece and meet with him/her and ask him/her to help you to find accommodation. Being a student city, Thessaloniki has a range of apartments offer. Or you can join the Erasmus group of Thessaloniki. But always look for apartments including all bills and furnished to avoid expend money on furniture especially if you are gonna to stay for one semester.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
As about food, Mediterranean dishes are very tasty. They all include olive oil and Greeks use feta cheese in daily basis. You can try many traditional dishes like musakas, tzatziki, greek salad, sea food, saganaki and so on. Tsoureki is a traditional Greek sweet, something like bread. In general you will never can try all Greek dishes because in any part of country in any city there are many kinds of dishes.
What places would you recommend visiting in Thessaloniki?
In Thessaloniki you can visit the old city called Ano Poli. There are castles of the Othoman Empire. You can visit Meteora, one of the largest and most important complexes of Greek Orthodox monasteries in Greece. If you want a more beautiful beach you can visit in Chalkidiki. Generally, there are a lot of good places you can visit.
Is it good to eat out in Thessaloniki? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Eating out is depends on the spots you go. There are many cheap spots like Todaylicious, Goody's, but there are many other spots in every corner in city in cheap prices. Navarinu street is the most famous for cheap food spots.
Is the nightlife good in Thessaloniki? Where is good to go?
Nightlife in Thessaloniki is very interesting. Young people go to clubs usually on Saturdays but on other days as well. There are many clubs of any sort of music. Bedroom is one example of a club with playing only Greek hits. Dog's is a RnB club playing only foreign RnB hits. Valaoritu street is one of the most famous streets having many clubs of all kinds.
What advice would you give future students heading to Thessaloniki?
If you are the type of person that love adventures, you should visit Thessaloniki. Studying here is easy. You will not have problems passing exams if you make some little effort. I would advice you to explore all the corners of Thessaloniki and the near cities of it.
