What is it like to live in Thessaloniki? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Thessaloniki is the perfect city for students. There are thousands of shops, coffe shops, night clubs and restaurant. Thessaloniki is well known for the White tower and the beach. A walk at "Nea Paralia" does live up to all expectations. There are plenty of picteresque streets to walk and the castles of an amazing view of the city. The city centre is easily walked thrgough, while the suburbs are not far away (maximum time from the most far away from center suburb is 40 minutes). It is a city that never sleeps!

What is the student lifestyle like in Thessaloniki?

All students in Thessaloniki have undoubtedly a great time! To begin with, there are two world recognised universities and one technological institute with great facilities, such as laboratories, libraries, new buildings, study rooms etc. There are countless bookstores and a student can find anything he/she needs for all academic purposes. Nightlife in Thessaloniki is also for every taste! Either you enjoy cozy evenings or endless parties, Thessaloniki offers numerous opporunities for entertainment. There are countelss coffee shops, restaurants and night clubs for every taste! There are also many theatres, museums, cinemas and archaeological sites. For the summer period there are countless places in Chalkidiki where students can enjoy the sun and the beach but also the nightlife.

How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?

Living in Thessaloniki is not very expensive. There are many discounts for students not only as far as the university facilities are concerned but also in restaurants and coffee shops. The tickets for the bus are really cheap and you can wander around Thessaloniki with a 0.60 euro ticket.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not difficult to find accomodation in Thessaloniki. There are countless apartments in the city centre. Most of them are old but recently renovated. There are also private and public dorms in which students can live. Most students choose the area of Evaggelistria and I would advise anyone who wants to study in Thessaloniki to search for accommodation in the Agiou Dimitriou area.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

People in Thessaloniki really know how to eat well! There are countless places where you can eat. You can eat anything you can imagine! There are restaurants with greek, asian, italian, spanish and armenian cuisine. There are many burger houses and plenty of places for hot dog and pizza.

What places would you recommend visiting in Thessaloniki?

Anyone visiting Thessaloniki should definitely go for a walk at "Nea Paralia". The feeling you get walking from the port of Thessaloniki to the concert hall is amazing. People should also visit Kamara, Rotonda, the castles of Thessaloniki, the Seih Sou forest. Finally, no one should miss a walk at the picteresque streets of Ano Poli.

Is it good to eat out in Thessaloniki? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My favourite spots are El Burito and Elia lemoni. I also enjoy eating at Hristos Gyradiko in Kamara. Corner pizza in Rotonda is also a very good place to eat.

Is the nightlife good in Thessaloniki? Where is good to go?

Nightlife is Thessaloniki's characteristic. The best place to go is Valawritou, where all the night clubs are located. There are also many place for coctails in Paralia. For those prefering an alternative way of entairtainment Ano Poli is ideal.

What advice would you give future students heading to Thessaloniki?

I would advice future students to try to visit almost every place in Thessaloniki. It is doable and totally worth it! I can assure you that any student can have an amazing time in Thessaloniki. All people living here are warm and ready to help you with anything you need!
