Experience in Thessaloniki, Greece by Argyris

What is it like to live in Thessaloniki? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I live in Thessaloniki for 3 years and can clearly say that it is very beautiful city!I would definitely recommend it to someone to visit it and especially international students. If you walk around the city for 1-2 weeks you will have learned it easily.

What is the student lifestyle like in Thessaloniki?

The universities here are pretty good and provide many services to the students. Some of these are the free distribution of student books and the free dining in the universities feeding center.

How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?

Thessaloniki is not so expensive.I mean there are some places, like cafes, restaurants and clubs which are really expensive(6 EU for a beer for example) but also there are many places in which you can find a cheap coffee and a cheap drink generaly.Transport costs are about 1 EU per route.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?

There are student residences which provided by the university and the cost is about 30-50 EU per month. If you cant find a room in this dorms, you should look for an accommodation by yourself and the prices here are between 170-350 for a pretty good house. If you are going to look for a house by yourself, you should check in the area of "Euaggelistria".This is a neighbourhood which there are a lot of cheap homes and it is right next to the university Aristotle and to the center of the city.

Is the nightlife good in Thessaloniki? Where is good to go?

Thessaloniki by night is really awesome. You have many choices according to your tastes. You can go for a beer in one of the many rock bars,or you can go for wine in a tavern. If the weather is good, you should go to the White Tower or to the Castles and hang out with your friends. Also,in the university campus happens really good parties by the students after 1am.Of course, there is the choice to go at a club, but the clubs are a little bit expensive.

What advice would you give future students heading to Thessaloniki?

Meet a lot of people and enjoy your stay!
