Experience in Thessaloniki, Greece by andromachi
How much does it cost to live in Thessaloniki?
The cost is not that big.I believe is around 800euros per month for everything.Of course it depends on your taste!
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Thessaloniki? Is there any advice you can give?
In the centre most houses are old and expencive. It's better to look for a house not that close to the centre. It won't be that difficult to transport, at least the day.For night there is a bus(78N) every hour that has a specific route and it'll probably be useful.Of course it depends on the area you'll choose. But do not stay in Ano Poli!
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The best! You can it taste junk food in good prices.Search for these places near the univercity. Also you can eat in the university. It's not the best food you can find but it's for free for the students so take advantage of it when you're broke!
Is it good to eat out in Thessaloniki? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Defenitely you should go to places near the beach to eat delicacies and drink tsipouro! It's not as cheap as junk food of course but it's worth it.
Is the nightlife good in Thessaloniki? Where is good to go?
It is great!Go to places around Kamara where you can drink cheap wine(not that good though).Bit bazar is another good choice(is an area with many stores for drink and food) but the stores close quiet early, 3am the most. And don't forget Valaoritou street!Whoever you'll ask will know it and show you how to go there.
What advice would you give future students heading to Thessaloniki?
It's a really easy city to learn.Just walk around the first days and you'll understand.Orient yourself according to the beach.
You're going to have a great time!Enjoy it!
