Cultural Tarragona
During my first internship I have been traveling within Spain. Once, my friends took me to an amazing Spanish city Tarragona. My Polish friend recommended to go there because she was there couple times before her internship. In fact she just praised the city.
Tarragona is quite small city with great port and enormous economic development. It is the capital of Tarragona province. Additionaly, it serves as a cultural and historic place which adds up perfectly.
Tarragona is a historic city which was found in 5th century BC by Iberians, the tribe who come from Roman and Greek sources. Later, in Roman times it got the status of city because of port and numerous immigrants from the east and north. Only Visigoths and Aragon dynasty established civilization form of life. Then, the city started flourishing very quickly.
Anyway, we arrived to Tarragona in the morning. And directly from bus station we started strolling around delightful city Tarragona. We decided not to waste money on bus because it is better to see everything then just the best places. Moreover, we had our Polish guide friend and she said us where to go and what to see. While walking from the bus station we approached to some interesting statue. The statue is called Monument als Castellers. As far as I concerned this statue is a national Catalan symbol which shows the nations freedom. It is a human tower striving to reach the sky.
We continued stroling further and turned to a main touristic street Rambla Vella. We quickly reached the unique district with interesting streets and Street Art paintings. It has extraordinary view and looks as if house is built on the other house. Nearby that disctict there is a municipal institution that governs Tarragona.
I think Tarragona has the most interesting Street Art paintings in Spain. On the photo below you may see the depiction of Catalan life style in the early modern period.
After those Street Art paintings we kept walking on the different street and gradually were reaching the glorious Tarragona Cathedral. This is a Roman Catholic Church which is built partly in Romanesque and partly in Gothic architecture style. Architect had combined two styles which made it look stunning. On the second picture you can look closer to see how perfect it was built.
Later, we went out of all those amazing places and stopped in a cafe for a break where our Polish friend suggested. The place is called Cafe Restaurant La Cantonada. It is very nice cafe with a quiet and splendid atmosphere. We had a snack there and soon went back to Cambrils.
Eventually, I should say that Tarragona is a very nice and positive port city. I like the monuments, buildings, churches and streets. Moreover, the refined street art painting amazed me very much. I like the style it was depicted those paintings. To be honest we have been visiting Tarragona about ten times after the very first one. But later, we have been visiting the city in terms of shopping. It is good that our Polish friend recommended seeing Tarragona. Apart from that, it was good to know how shopping field is flourishing there. Anyway, I would like to come over there just one more time.
