The best beaches in Split

The best beaches in Split

Like I mentioned before, the best beaches in Split are actually in the nearby islands; however Split’s still got a bunch of spots that can manage to blow your mind. We went to three different beaches in Split itself, and I would absolutely and whole heartedly recommend one of them, but for the sake of my list being completed I will write about all the beaches.

1) Kasjuni Beach

I know we’re always supposed to save the best for the last, but I rather not. I'm just too in love with this beach to want to even wait to describe to you guys. This beach is a little out of the town; it’s like a 15 minute drive from the city center. We actually didn’t plan on going to this beach at all, we didn’t even know about it nor did we find it anywhere online. My friend was actually going through Instagram captions of Split and came across this beach, I checked the Uber price and we saw that it costs less than 10 Euros to go there and so we headed there the next day. I was like you guys we need to go early we’ll snatch a good spot on the beach before it gets too crowded.

We headed there around 10 am; our Uber driver was the nicest man ever, just like every other Croatian we met. The beach was almost empty when we got there. We took a great spot and that’s when we started to marvel at the beauty of this beach. The Kasjuni beach is located in the Marjan forest area, and so one side of this beach was the jungle and all the greenery and the other side had palm trees that reminded me of Dubai’s beaches.

The beach was clean and it had two beach bars. Later on we found out that this entire beach and the whole area is a protected area which prevents developers from building anything in it. No wonder it’s so untouched and scenic.

It's a must go to beach if you’re in Split. You can swim in its crystal clear water as much as you want but please remember that as it is with many beaches on Croatia this one is also covered by pebbles and not sand. I know the feeling of the sand beneath your feet is something else but I realized whenever you go to these pebbly beaches you realize that how much cleaner the whole going to the beach process is. I mean you don’t get sand stuck to all your body parts and your swimsuit. So that’s something to be happy about.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you should buy water shoes if you plan on spending a lot of time in the sea, whether it's swimming or just standing as the waves crash on to you. Some of the areas are really rocky and it can hurt your feet a lot. I have countless bruises and I fell a bunch of times and hurt myself. Water shoes are sold in every small shop and stand in Split; they cost less than 10 Euros. Taking the precaution is better than ending up like us.

The beach bar and the restaurant is really good, there’s one on each side of the beach. You could rent those beach chairs for about 150 Kunas, that’s 20 Euros for the whole day, which we didn’t do because the beach was perfectly clean to lay on. The drinks and the food weren’t cheap but that’s kind of expected. You’d pay like 6 Euros for a coke, 5 Euros for a bottle of water and 10 euros for like a cider or something. We also got ice cream, which was quite cheap and the lady there was so nice that she gave us an extra scoop. Every day I was amazed by the kindness that every Croat showed us. It’s really not a big deal but those small acts of kindness are what made Croatia one of the most memorable destinations in my heart.

Oh I forgot to add that the beach bar is called Joe’s beach and lounge bar. And don’t forget to tip them!

(The beach chairs I was talking about)

We spent our entire day on this beach, even made friends with the bartenders. In the afternoon it was quite crowded and they even had a DJ, we would have loved to stay longer but we had to go and change so we could catch the world cup game of Croatia Vs England. The most memorable football match I have ever watched. I’ll write a separate article on the entire experience later on.

Anyways don’t miss out on this beach, that’s all I'm going to say.

2) Firule Beach

This is the beach that we went to on our last day in Split. We checked out of our Airbnb, left our luggage in one of those luggage keeping places and went to enjoy our last day in Split. It was even hard to say last day, we enjoyed the entire trip so much that it was pure pain to let go. I know I'm being dramatic again but this time it was true.

The Firule beach was in the city, so we so decided to walk. Actually it was quite bit of a walk and we ended up thinking why didn’t we order a cab. Anyhow it wasn’t as far away as Kasjuni. Given it was in the city, it was also a lot more crowded than the other ones. We went there at 12 pm, by that time majority of the good spots were taken. This one was a sandy beach and not the cleanest sandy beach I've seen. It wasn’t dirty either, it was just crowded. There were a lot of families with children and so it wasn’t peaceful either.

We didn’t mind any of that, we started sunbathing and really got tanned that day. I even swam quite a bit. The water was really nice and warm. I’d say this beach was even better for swimming, since it was a sandy beach and there was no hurting yourself and falling in the water.

Hmm what else, there were bars and restaurants around but we didn’t check them out, most of the time we were sleeping anyways. I would recommend this beach, as a normal beach to hang out in. There is nothing that spectacular or scenic about it so don’t raise your expectations too much.

3) Bacvice Beach

Okay if there is one beach in Split that I wouldn’t recommend, is this one. We went here on our first day but it was already dark. We just went to check it out and see how it is. I would say that it's even below your average normal beach. It’s not pretty at all, it’s dirty and it’s extremely crowded. You see Bacvice beach is the nearest beach to the city, it is in the city in fact and so everyone goes here. Given it’s extremely public, it would be dirty as well. As we were walking on the beach, all we could see were the cigarette butts that were thrown into the sand.

The Firule beach is actually quite nearby Bacvice but I would genuinely choose Firule over this one. If you search the internet, the first beach that you’ll see is this one and I would say just cross it off your list unless you’ve got a few hours to spare and you’d rather spend it at a nearby beach; I guess it would be okay then.

4) Bene Beach

This beach is a little further outta town than Kasjuni. This is also a public beach; it has got a lot of equipment for water sports and swimming in general. It’s fairly clean and our Airbnb host recommended it to us. Sadly we never got the chance to go, but I'm including it in this list because everyone marveled about it’s beauty. If you do get the chance to go, let me know how it is.

I hope you guys enjoy this piece, as you can see I'm making more and more lists to make things easier.
