Museu de Arte Contemporânea
Brazilian contemporary art
Brazil is not only about nature and samba, like most people think. São Paulo is a great example of the cultural diversity in the country - the biggest city in South America proves that brazilian culture is all about industry and metropolis as well.
Besides that, Brazil is a great art center. All over São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and other big cities in the country you'll find lots of urban arts, grafittis (ex: Beco do Batman) and museums.
One ot the greatests museums in São Paulo is the MAC (Museu de Arte Contemporânea), a 5 floors building, projected by an important brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer, just in front of Parque do Ibirapuera. The place keeps art collections from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries in Brasil, with art pieces signed by Portinari, Tarsila do Amaral and many others. It also holds events and temporary national and international exhibitions on contemporary art.
It's a great place to get to know brazilian art as well as see the city of São Paulo. You can get to the roof of the museum and see a great sighseen of the metropolis, with a view to Ibirapuera Park and 23 de maio avenue.
Another great thing about it is that the entrance is free. The museum is part of University of São Paulo, the most important public college in the country.
If you're in São Paulo, don't miss this place!
