Good restaurants in Salzburg and Innsbruck
Good restaurants in the Salzburg and Innsbruck area
Hello again everyone! Today I am bringing you the last post about this trip that we took through Austria. In the previous entries, I spoke to you about very pretty cities such as Innsbruck and Salzburg; and also about the two biggest waterfalls in Austria and what you can visit. Today, I am going to tell you about the restaurants where we ate during our route which lasted 4 days. The truth is that we went around a bit blindly, which is a bit risky because Austria isn't exactly known for being a cheap country, and this also applies to the hostels. Also, having visited Vienna many times, we knew that in Austria there are restaurants with prohibitive prices. Anyway, we were lucky with our choices, as much in Salzburg, Attersee, Innsbruck and in Zell Am See. Here I will leave you them so you can take note and feel hungry. Let's go!
L’Osteria in Salzburgo
As you know, our first stop was in Salzburg and we ate in L'Osteria. We had already tried L'Osteria in Dresden (Germany) and we liked it so much that we decided to test our luck to see how it would be in Salzburg. Thus, after having a coffee at 7:30 pm. we went to have dinner, respecting the European timings. My advice is to eat early, because just as we had finished our dinner and left the restaurant, the queue to enter became super long with a minimum of around 40 minutes waiting time. The truth is that I had already been to this restaurant the first time that I visited this city, but I didn't remember the name or the place. Of course, as soon as we entered the street where it was, I recognised it straight away.
As for the food, as always it was delicious. We ordered three big Italian dishes: Mushroom risotto, pizza with raw prosciutto and pasta. We didn't have any room left for dessert so after eating, we went to have a last look round Salzburg and then went to sleep. Here is a picture of the dishes, they were really good and the price was very good in terms of what the average is.
Also, the customer service was really good, the restaurant was right in the centre and if you want, you can have dinner on the terrace. L'Osteria is always a success.
Ambiente am See, in Attersee
This restaurant was practically a stones throw away from the Attersee lake, you only have to walk for around 5 minutes to get to it and admire the beautiful views. We found it on TripAdvisor and it seemed to be one of the best ones in the area, considering the price. The restaurant has two functions, since it has two floors. Probably one was for the owners that live there and the lower part is exclusively for food. Without a doubt, this is a good investment and idea, because in the summer the Austrian lakes are full of people and it is 100 per cent certain that if you offer quality products, you are almost always not going to have any empty tables in your business.
The restaurant was Italian style: it had pizza, pasta, risotto and Italian desserts. Inside, they had a shop with all kinds of perfectly placed Italian food products. These products were on sale and also were a form of decoration.
When we arrived, the restaurant was quite full, but luckily they had a table for our group of 6. They had as much space inside as outside. We ate outside on a really cute terrace, which you will see later. It is perfectly decorated and thought out: both the plants and the decorative elements. Our table was amazing. The sun had started to set and the dim light kept us warm.
As for the menu, it was not very expensive; and considering the quality it was quite good. We had pizzas with Serrano ham and truffle (very recommended), pasta, etc. I loved the dishes because they were packed with ingredients and you could tell that they were high-quality. They weren't the normal pizzas where they decorate the dough with just three or four pieces of ham. These were full, so much that the ingredients almost fell off the sides as I was eating it. How great it is to eat with your hands!
We also ordered a dish of melon with ham as a starter (the perfect combination). As a dessert, I suggest that you try the tiramisu because it definitely was one of the best things that I have ever tried in my life. It was really creamy. The rest of the desserts were a bit expensive (around 6 or 8 euros), but I have to say that they were enormous. With just one dessert of that size I would have been full up, it would have been like a main meal for me. They had crepes with different fillings (fruit, cream, nutella, etc).
The waiters were really nice, attentive and speedy. I don't have any complaints.
Piazza Quattro in Zell Am See
Visitar Zekk Am See wasn't on our route. We went there as a kind of improvisation but we liked it so much that we decided to stay there and have dinner. There were several interesting restaurants, but it was now a little late so in a lot of them we would have had to wait in a queue for 30 minutes, so we went to Piazza Quattro, where there was room for our group of 5. It is one of the main squares of the city so that if you sit at one of the tables next to the window, you will have some nice views. The restaurant has two floors and a very simple but pretty aesthetic, with a very dim light that gave it a nice atmosphere. We ordered salad, vegetable risotto and also seafood pasta. They gave us free bread, which is always nice since it is not that common in central Europe. The desserts looked really delicious but I have to say that they were quite expensive, as well as the one dish that we ordered which filled us up. Here I will leave you a photo of the salad that Paloma and I shared. Very good.
Stiftskeller in Innsbruck
The truth is that whilst we visited this city we saw lots of restaurants which looked delicious, but we decided to go to one which served typical Austrian food (it was about time). It was a very big restaurant, with several floors and a really big terrace. In fact, there were severals doors of entry and connected one street with another. So, you entered one part of the restaurant from one street and you came out on a different street.
The restaurant was very full and we thought that they would take a while to serve us our food, but they were honestly very quick. We ordered lasagna, some kind of "meatballs" made with flour and spinach, salad and a pork tenderloin with rice. After, the atmosphere was so nice that we decided to stay there drinking a coffee until night fell, and we finally had to leave. The truth is that it wasn't excessively expensive. The portions were generous and it was in the centre of Innsbruck, in the historic quarter, so you couldn't ask for more. I recommend it, especially if you fancy trying typical Austrian dishes. Here we realised that in Austria, there is also a typical dish similar to the Slovakian "halusky", which is a kind of gnnocci with bryndza cheese and bacon on top. In short, a huge load of calories but I think that it is worth trying because it is very characteristic of this area in Europe.
Rustica Tratorria - Pizzeria in Wells
Wells is a really small city in Austria whose historic centre is very pretty but tiny. A small river crosses the city and there is a small and quite cute path which passes by. Honestly, it is not a city which is worth visiting, at least not one to intentionally visit, but we were passing by so it was just something extra. We stopped here so that the journey didn't work out so long and so we could have something to eat. As always (we aren't very original, it must be said) we ended up at another Italian restaurant. I would go to Spanish restaurants, but in this area of Europe there are hardly any. And when there is, a dish of croquetas costs 10 euros!
Well, we went to Rustica Tratorria - Pizzeria and it was a complete success. They had infinite varieties of pasta (pesto, seafood, carbonara... ) as well as pizzas. For dessert: tiramisu and forest fruit pannacotta. It was an authentic Italian restaurant. The waiters were Italian, the menu was in Italian and even the atmosphere made you feel like you were in Italy. The decoration was very romantic as well. Here are some photos of the menu, it was a complete success. I wish I had this restaurant nearby to where I live because I loved it. I want to go there again. It is a shame that it is so far away.
And this is everything that I want to tell you in today's entry. We really liked these free restaurants. You already know that to find restaurants to your liking you can always do a search on TripAdvisor and apply all of the filters that you want. You can filter by price, type of cooking, location, etc. Even though for me, the most reliable way is to go around the streets looking for one that looks appetising and that you think will be okay. At the end of the day, opinions are personal. And with this I am done, thank you for reading and I will see you in the next post. Best wishes!
