What is it like to live in Saarbrücken? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Saarbrurcken is a really nice city to live. You have all the positive things you would expect in a bigger city, like party, good transport, good restaurants and a lot to see but at the same time it is a city that is not to big. You won't ever have the feeling to get lost in Saarbruecken because it is more like a very big village than like a city. What is also nice is that you have the possibility to experience Luxembourg and France as well because you can go there easily by bus from Saarbruecken.

What is the student lifestyle like in Saarbrücken?

Saarbruecken is definitely a student city and you will experience this fact in nightlife and also in the cheap prices in most bars and restaurants. The nightlife is not to compare with Berlin or cities like that but if you come to Saarbruecken for Erasmus you will find many ways to have good fun.

How much does it cost to live in Saarbrücken?

Compared to what? Compared to other German cities Saarbruecken is not very expensive. It is a student city not a city for rich peoble (as for example Munich).

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Saarbrücken? Is there any advice you can give?

It becomes more and more difficult to find accomondation in Saarbrücken. I would give the advice that if possible take a flat in "St. Johann" or "Alt-Saarbrücken"!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

As in every bigger city you have the choice what to eat : italian, asian, greek, german, american and even british.

Is it good to eat out in Saarbrücken? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Vapiano is a nice place to eat out especially for students because it is very good and not very expensive.

Is the nightlife good in Saarbrücken? Where is good to go?

You don't have many clubs in Saarbruecken but with the ones you have you can get Lucky. You will find a club for every taste. My absolute favorite is "Blau" nightclub.

What advice would you give future students heading to Saarbrücken?

I know that everybody who comes here will have a great time but do not expect too much. Saarbruecken is not a very rich city and that is why some parts of the city are not very nice. Also Saarbruecken is like a big village not like a city so do not expect the big city live with a choice of 5 clubs every night of the week. But the charm of small-big-town Saarbruecken will make you feel comfortable here.
