Trevi Fountain: A romantic's paradise

Of course Trevi Fountain has been and will always be the highlights of my time here in Rome. I was fortunate enough to see its amazing transformation after the construction work on it was finished earlier this year. It's a sight that can only be appreciated with your own eyes, pictures can never do it any justice.

The first time i saw the Trevi Fountain last year in November, it was still under construction but that did not stop the crowd of tourists that still crowded around it in order to toss their coins over their shoulders. I have heard many versions of the myth behind the tossing of the coin, particularly the one about how it allows you to come back to Rome. I will be living here for at least the next 5 years so i didn't want to believe this myth, instead, i was drawn into the more romantic version of the myth. I was told that if you throw 3 coins into the fountain, you will meet your one true love. I know what you're thinking, there is no way that could be true, but my purse which was 3 coins lighter after i left the fountain would say otherwise. Deep down, ofcourse, i don't believe this legend, but i heard that the money they collect from the fountain goes to good use, so that's probably why i did it. Or was it?

A few months later the Trevi was finally re-opened and ready for the crowd of tourists who did not waste any time going to visit it. On this particular night i went to see it, there must have been something in the air. Maybe it was the fact that it was the beginning of February and Cupid was flying around the just shooting his arrows in every direction but mine, there were a lot of couples professing their love for one another. I sat around the around the fountain and just enjoyed its undying beauty and the different love scenes that played in front of me. After a while the cold started to hit me and unfortunately for myself, just a few seconds after i had started the walk away from the fountain, an apparently nervous man had just gotten down on one knee to propose to his future fiancé. From the loud applause and shouts that followed, i am certain the answer to his very important question was a yes. One would be insane not to say yes to a proposal at one of the most romantic sights in Italy, maybe even in the world. I know i would have said yes in a heart beat!
