My Erasmus Experience in Rome, Italy by Chloe
Why did you choose to go to Rome, Italy?
I am currently studying Interior Architecture so it made sense for me to go to Italy and more specifically Rome for its architectural history.
How much time are you spending there? How much help did you receive?
I'm staying in Rome for 5 months and I received 1500€ for my entire stay.
What is the student atmosphere like in Rome?
There's always something to do here and many parties are organised. There are many lively neighborhoods but my favorite will always be San Lorenzo (very cosmopolitan) and Pigneto (more local, not as well known but just as great).
How's the food in Italy?
The food is great! Pizza, Pasta, Gelato, etc. It's a real paradise!
Did you have any difficulty finding accommodation in Rome?
No, I found mine in good time with the Erasmus accommodation site and I'm in an apartment near San Giovanni with three other nice girls.
What's the cost of living in Rome?
The cost of living is relatively low except for accommodation which can quickly climb as you get closer to the historic center.
What areas would you recommend for nights out in Rome?
San Lorenzo is one of the cheaper student areas in Rome (a mojito for 3, 50€) and Pigneto which is more eccentric but also more local and more fun.
What about eating out in Rome? What are your favorite spots?
My flatmates and I often go to Cargo al Pigneto, the bar Dei Bruti and to the pizzeria O'sole e Napule.
And what cultural sites would you recommend visiting?
The museum of modern art "The MAXXI", which is busy but also beautiful.
