Why did you choose to go to Rome, Italy?

I always considered Rome one of the most beautiful (if not THE most beautiful) capital city in Europe, and I wanted to learn Italian, a language that I love the sound of and really wanted to speak!

How long did you stay in Rome? How much funding did you receive?

I stayed for one whole academic year and a received 240€ a month.

What is student life like in Rome?

Fantastic! There are so many Erasmus students because there are a few universities in Rome. There are several organisations that organise events every day. You always have the chance to meet new people!

Would you recommend the city and university of Rome to other students?

Yes, absolutely, it's Rome!

What is the food like?

The clichés about Italian food are true: they eat a lot and often! Pasta, pizza, mozzarella, ham... all of this is good quality but not expensive, you will find lots of restaurants everywhere.

Did you have any problems finding accommodation in Rome?

Not really, that's what I did: I went to Rome one week before the beginning of the course to visit some apartments, in 4 days I saw dozens of them, which made my choice easier. There are lots of offers, but you really have to insist if you want them to respond you quickly!

How much does it cost to live in Rome?

In comparison to the countries from Eastern Europe, it is more expensive, but you can still enjoy everything without spending too much.

How did you get on with the language? Did you attend a course at the University?

I started with a 3 weeks course offered by the university, with almost no level in the beginning. I must admit that it is very easy to learn the language, as it is very similar to the French language.

What's the most cost-effective way to get to Rome from your hometown?

By plane, there are lots of low cost flights to Rome. I can afford a round trip to Bordeaux for 80€.

Where would you recommend for a night out in Rome?

There are several scattered everywhere! For bars, the district of Trastevere. For clubs, Goa, Piper, Ex Dogana.

What about going out to eat in Rome? Can you tell us some of your favourite places?

There is the Meeting Place, Forno la Renella, and Marcolino Pane e Vino.

What is there in terms of cultural places to visit?

Oh well, they are not missing! Vatican of course, then all the churches and places we hear about. As well as the Colosseum, Fontana di Trevi...

Any advice for students going to Rome in the future?

Be prepared mentally for the administrative level at the university, it is a bit complicated to understand it.
