Experience in Rome, Italy by Nadia
What is it like to live in Rome? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
People say that Rome is the second most romantic city in the world, after, as you could probably guess: Paris.
Personally, I'm not here to say whether it is or isn't, but certainly, a person like me, who is rational in respect, even in my emotions, will end up breaching my barriers there! Between the amazing and inspiring architecture and panoramas, people find themselves letting Rome into their heart and not letting it go!
Would I recommend it? Definitely! The environment is so spectacular that it makes up for all of the bad things about the city!
What is the student lifestyle like in Rome?
I have studied in a few different universities and I loved the environment that I found in my university here, although the Roma Tre University welcomes a lot of students, the infrastructure is always very will equipped and the professors are very well prepared.
The people of Rome are very friendly, although that's not normal for people in a big city, in this respect, Rome breaks the mould!
How much does it cost to live in Rome?
Living here, I won't lie to you, is very expensive! Rent, transport and everything else... is expensive! But, it's worth the money! You have one less beer and everything will work out.
What is the food like there? What are some of your favourite dishes?
Well, in Rome, the food is different from the rest of the country. The pizza is very good, it's actually called "pizza romana", the ice cream isn't made in the most traditional way... I wasn't too keen on it. Of course, it's still Italian food, so it's very delicious.
Where would you recommend to visit in Rome?
I'm going to avoid writing about the most well-known places that you'll find on any map you can buy:
- Il Giardino degli Aranci.
- Il Pincio.
- Il Buco della Serratura.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Rome?
There's a good area to go in the winter, called Ostiense: via Libetta, where there are some different clubs or, in summer, il Gasometro, in the same area, but it's only a stone throw away from the river Tiber.
The bars close early in the city centre and they let you take your drinks with you, in fact there's a lot of partying, the best thing that you have to do in Rome is to find a good club, depending on personal taste (and on your budget)... there are a lot of them!
Do you have any advice for students coming to Rome in the future?
In the beginning, it's very difficult. But the likeability of the people, the city itself and the unique moments you'll have in Rome make it all worth it!
