What is it like to live in Rome? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Rome is fantastic. The city is built for walkers, but the metro is decent and the tram, while specific to certain areas is fantastic. The food, culture and night scene are unparalleled.

What is the student lifestyle like in Rome?

Student lifestyle is ideal. Cheap eating options, lots of nightlife, safety and good lodging.

How much does it cost to live in Rome?

Rome is cheaper than most European cities.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rome? Is there any advice you can give?

Not at all, there are loads of options all over the city.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Italian food, what's not to like?

In Rome I would highly reccomend having a panino with porchetta, and an abbacchio. These are very Roman dishes that are not so well known outside of Italy.

There are two types of pizza here, pizza tonda (the classic round one with triangular slices) is thinner and found in sit-down restaurants, or pizza al taglio which is cheaper, and is thicker and squared. The special Roman pizza is the diavola.

What places would you recommend visiting in Rome?

The following piazzas:

  • Navona
  • Del Popolo
  • Venezia
  • Campo de Fiori
  • Piazza di Spagna

I would reccomend going up the Spanish steps and seeing the heart of the city away from where most tourists go. I would also recommend the Vatican, fontana di Trevi and for people to walk down the major streets (Via Nazionale, Via Del Corso, Corso Vittorio Emanuele)

Finally, the Roman forum and the coliseum, both of whom are on Via Dei Fori Imperiali, close to Piazza Venezia.

Is it good to eat out in Rome? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Trastevere is the best place to eat out. Quality food at great prices. For a porchetta Donkey Punch is the best in the city.

Is the nightlife good in Rome? Where is good to go?

Fantastic, the trastevere area is filled with little bars and on the other side of the river there is a vibrant club scene i. e. Shari Vari.

What advice would you give future students heading to Rome?

Walk. You'll learn and see much more.
