What is it like to live in Rome? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I moved out from Rome when I was 18 to study in another city, and I only came back recently after I graduated. Living in Rome has many perks, the beauty of the city is well known, and there is always something going on, concerts, art expositions, and many events. But it has its cons like moving around the city with the public transportation, especially if someone lives in residential districts like me.

What is the student lifestyle like in Rome?

I will experience it for the first time this year.

How much does it cost to live in Rome?

I live with my parents, but I know rent can be high. But food, restaurants, and other things are not too expensive, once the non-touristic places are found!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Rome? Is there any advice you can give?

No, I can't give advice on this.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is amazing. Pizza everywhere, but I like pasta more. Typical roman dishes are pasta alla carbonara, pasta cacio & pepe, and then for appetizers some fried things called supplì.

What places would you recommend visiting in Rome?

Besides the touristic spots, the non-catholic cemetery with Keats grave and eventually the Testaccio district. Then Villa Borghese, il Tempietto del Bramante, the district of Rione Monti (especially Via del Cardello).

Is the nightlife good in Rome? Where is good to go?

Trastevere, near the river, is a beautiful small district with bars and nice squares usually full with students! Clubs are also nice but can be expensive.

What advice would you give future students heading to Rome?

Long walks in Rome by night are the best thing.
