Why did you choose to go to Rennes, France?
Out of the 2 possibilities I had to do civil engineering in France, this seemed to be the most similar to Exeter and the most recommended by people I knew when I gave them the options I had.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I received around 300 euros a month for every month I stay here.
What is the student lifestyle like in Rennes?
The city of Rennes is a student city full of things to do everyday and with different discounts for students to encourage them to do different things. There is a great variety of activities available.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Rennes to other students?
I would recommend the city of Rennes to other students that don't mind small cities. It is easy to get around and there is the possibility of crossing Rennes by bike and it being around 45 min.
What is the food like?
The food in Catered halls is not too good if you are staying in an engineering school but, the others are okay. If you are self-catered food isn't too cheap but not horribly expensive.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Rennes?
The engineering school provided me with accommodation, although I do know that it is quite hard to get a flat. I recommend always going for student accommodation.
How much does it cost to live in Rennes?
It depends on your usual spending.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are free French language courses in the University. I recommend to have learnt French previously.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Rennes from your city?
By plane, either Rennes-Barcelona and Barcelona-Malaga or Rennes-Paris and Paris-Malaga.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Rennes?
For bars Rue de la Soif for clubs the big ones are Pymms, L'Espace but there are many others.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Rennes?
Don't eat out.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Rennes is a city that has old houses that survived both world wars hence the historic importance.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Rennes in the future?
Just have fun.
